Job Description:

The Database Developer position plays a crucial role in supporting IT applications used by HHSC program areas by overseeing complex development and database management tasks. The main goal is to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within IT operations by finding new ways to improve existing systems and implement innovative solutions. This role involves analyzing systems, identifying requirements, automating processes, and enhancing existing systems. The Database Developer collaborates with team members and management and has the freedom to use initiative and independent judgment.

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, with the possibility of work outside regular hours and travel to other locations. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead the design and implementation of database development procedures to support critical business processes and application functionalities
Develop and maintain applications and tools ensuring seamless integration with databases and other systems
Coordinate with the application development team to meet data needs
Participate in planning, designing, administering, operating, monitoring, and maintaining data development environments
Coordinate in the development and execution of enterprise-level strategies and technical direction
Maintain documentation and coordinate cross-functional agency projects
Use initiative and independent judgment to identify needs and opportunities in the development of plans to meet application data objectives
Participate in disaster response and recovery activities when required

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of software development principles, practices, and techniques
Familiarity with computer operations, systems, and procedures
Understanding of high-level system design methodologies and techniques
Proficiency in relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server
Experience in developing PL/SQL scripts, C#, and .NET programming for application development
Ability to perform technical analysis, design, and database planning
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Effective communication skills for gathering system requirements from stakeholders
Capability to design and develop database solutions, analyze complex business problems, and define user needs
Capacity to manage multiple activities in different projects, work independently, and meet deadlines
