    Description

    Customer Service/Patient Experience:

    • Obtain and prioritize the voice of the customer in the design and implementation of pharmacy services.
    • Assure achievement of the department commitment to be innovative, proactive, and accountable for quality patient outcomes by optimizing medication use across the continuum of care.
    • Provide excellent customer service to patients and other healthcare team members with attention to the needs of all staff.
    • Assure the team is adhering to the ICARE values and AIDET principles and customer service guidelines and providing optimal pharmaceutical services to our patients.

    HR/Talent Management:

    • Oversee staff development, evaluate job performance, offer constructive feedback, discipline as necessary, and provide on-going coaching to ensure activities are performed within department and St. Elizabeth policy.
    • Recruit, interview, hire, orient, train, supervise, evaluate and counsel department staff. In conjunction with the System Director, approve position descriptions and performance standards for all pharmacy staff. Establish appropriate staffing levels and positions to achieve departmental and hospital objectives.
    • Provides appropriate direction for Staff Development to insure continuous improvement in performance of everyones professional responsibilities.
    • Assures professional competency including patient and age specific skills are met.
    • Develop, promote and maintain professional relationships to ensure an environment conducive to customer service and high-quality patient care.
    • Participate in community benefit and outreach.

    Budget/Finance Management:

    • With the assistance of the Business Manager and System Director, creates, implements, controls, maintains, monitors and administers annual budgets (operating and capital) to ensure the department goals are met.
    • Develops and provides variance analysis of any meaningful positive or negative variation on a monthly basis or more frequently if needed.
    • Seek innovative ways to reduce/contain costs and ensure quality services.
    • Assure that appropriate charge capture and billing systems for pharmacy charges are developed and maintained. Assure proper resource management.
    • Monitors and adjusts staffing to meet the needs of the patient demand ensuring staff productivity.
    • Daily/Weekly/Monthly reporting of financial management tools. Prepare, present, track and self-report all threshold capital business plans.
    • Assures purchasing process is following sound accounting guidelines.

    Medication Safety, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance:

    • Meets or exceeds standards of compliance of all the accreditation and regulatory agencies and commissions (including but not limited to KBOP, FDA, DEA, CMS, TJC, URAC and ACHC).
    • Assures that St. Elizabeth complies with the highest governing standards and is familiar with the ASHP standards of performance for hospital pharmacy.
    • Develop, maintain, oversee and report departmental performance improvement
    • Ambulatory Director Only: Responsible for leading a Quality Management Committee with the objective of developing, implementing and maintaining a Quality Management Program that promotes the objectives and systematic measurement, monitoring and evaluation of the Specialty Pharmacy Services and implements quality improvement activities based upon findings.

    Operations/Medication Preparation & Distribution:

    • Oversee the system-wide operations of an applicable business unit (s), (ex. Specialty, Ambulatory, Acute Care, Infusion, Retail, etc.) Lead the pharmacy in planning and utilization of automation and technology.
    • Evaluate, implement, and monitor the medication distribution process.

    Clinical/Medication Management:

    • Responsible for development and implementation of pharmacy related clinical programs, clinical studies, and pharmacy services as agreed upon.
    • Optimize the model to support the Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI).
    • Oversee Drug Use Policy and formulary management through activities of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

    Leadership/Strategy:

    • In conjunction with the System Director develops strategic plan for system functional area and site and establishes realistic goals through a proper plan of objectives to ensure that challenges both professional and financial are met by the Pharmacy.
    • Performs appropriate committee functions in those committees of the Medical Staff and St. Elizabeth that are assigned to and ensure patient safety, and the efficacy of medication preparation, dispensing and administration.
    • Appropriately recognize organizational lines within the department; keep employees informed of matters affecting their work and interest; interpret and explain hospital policies and procedures, department objectives, operations, services, organization, budget and seek comments and suggestions from employees.
    • Collaborate with service line leaders across the organization to implement business and patient care strategies.

    Education, Credentials, Licenses:

    • Graduate from ACPE accredited pharmacy college
    • Current US pharmacist license in the state where work is being performed.

    Specialized Knowledge:
    Superior problem solving and critical thinking skills

    Superior communication skills

    Hospital Pharmacy and personnel administration

    Management Principles

    Leadership skills

    Familiar with Current Practice Standards

    Microsoft Office experience and comfort with spreadsheets


    Kind and Length of Experience:
    Minimum 1 year health system leadership experience and 5 years Pharmacy experience.
