Vacancy for the School Year

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree or Higher (Preferred in Mental Health, Social Work or Related Field such as Psychology, Sociology or Education)
NJ State Certificate in School Counseling or Valid NJ Teacher Certification
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build working relationships with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
Determine family needs, provide advocacy services, and help obtain available community services.
Experience in assisting parents in learning about child development, nutrition, providing a safe environment and how to support the curriculum at home by creating parent workshops based on needs gathered in parent surveys.
Ability to motivate and inspire stakeholders toward a common goal
Experience with Mac OS 10.5 or greater/Windows XP and 7

RESPONSIBILITY:

The Community Parent Involvement Specialist will work closely with preschool families and teachers to meet the needs of students in the early childhood education setting.

FUNCTION:

Through family workshops and parent surveys, assist parents at the preschool level in learning about child development, nutrition, providing a safe environment and how to support the curriculum at home by creating parent workshops based on needs gathered in parent surveys.

PERFORMANCE OF DUTIES:

Coordinate the Early Childhood Advisory Council. (ECAC)
Evaluate the needs of Families.
Coordinate systematic parent involvement plans, workshops, and activities.
Monitor parent engagement in early childhood programs and school activities.
Support parents by making community programs, supports, and resources accessible.
Communicate with community agencies and social service personnel.
Oversee the district's family support services for the preschool program that includes but is not limited to: facilitating the community needs assessment, staffing the Early Childhood Advisory Council, organizing family involvement plans/activities, and coordinating work with other school district professionals, community agencies/providers.
Designing and providing family workshops based on identified needs and topics related to the survey.
Designs welcome packets for families, and attend all back to school, parent conferences, and school-wide after school activities.
Performs other jobs and duties as assigned.

The J. C. Stuart and Garfield East Early Childhood Development Centers
