    Overview


    PPL's Data & Analytics Office is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to be an integral part of the Digital Transformation.

    The ideal candidate is expected to have a good understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data analytics solutions and should be able to analyze and optimize machine learning workloads on advanced hardware and software platforms.

    They will be instrumental in building highly scalable Machine Learning frameworks as part of our Data & Analytics Platform.

    They will be working cross-functionally with the Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and business groups and lead the design and development of Advanced Analytics within PPL's Data Platform.

    The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will use their deep technical experience in working with technologies related to Machine Learning and AI frameworks and use this knowledge to implement best practices.

    It will be a crucial role to create and implement a well-informed Advanced Analytics strategy.

    They should be able to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences and guide more junior team members in the creation and execution of the developed vision.

    This position is available remote or hybrid with working locations in Louisville, KY or Allentown, PA.

    Responsibilities

    Lead the end-to-end development of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for PPL's data platform.

    Implement machine learning algorithms into services and pipelines to be consumed at scale.


    Work with our business stakeholders across PPL to understand their business needs and translate those needs to solutions using ML/AI.

    Own and drive contemporary best practices in deploying data science at scale.


    As a trusted leader and hands-on engineer, share recommendations around best practices, cost trade-offs, security, performance, and reliability in bringing ML models to production.

    Collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Platform developers across the organization in an Agile environment.

    Thought Leadership:
    evangelize and drive best practices in ML/AI development life cycle, production deployment and governance.


    Enjoy working in a collaborative environment with data scientists, data engineers, architects, Product Owners/Product Managers from other business units and/or customers, to develop high-value solutions for our most complex data-based challenges.

    May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role.

    This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service.

    This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor's in Computer Science or related field

    5+ years of programming in large scale production systems, in languages such as Python, Java, Scala etc.


    3+ years of experience in Cloud environments such as Azure/AWS and at least 3+ years of experience in services in these environments related to ML/AI.


    3+ years of experience in deploying and operating ML/AI models (ML Ops) in production in cloud and edge environments; Experience in designing, deployment and management scalable data pipelines.

    Experience with a variety of ML and AI techniques (multivariate/logistic regression models, cluster analysis, predictive modeling, neural networks, deep learning, pricing models, decision trees, ensemble methods, etc.)

    Advanced skillset building models and performing analysis using scripting languages (Python, R, Scala, etc.)

    Advanced knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (SQL, NoSQL)

    Proficient in large-scale distributed systems (Hadoop, Spark, etc.)

    Experience with designing and presenting compelling insights using visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau etc.)

    Experience with wrangling, exploring, transforming, and analyzing datasets of varying size and complexity.

    Experience working using Agile-based principles and tools.

    Stay current with AI/ML trends and research; be a thought leader in AI area.


    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage customers at a business level in addition to a technical level.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and team player attitude.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Master's in Computer Science or related field.

    Microsoft Azure Certifications
