    Job Summary

    Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago seeks a proven major gifts fundraiser to significantly contribute to the vitality and growth of Catholic Charities in Chicago, IL and the near north suburbs. Successful candidates will have demonstrated success in donor cultivation and stewardship, cross-functional collaboration and closing 6-figure gifts.

    The Director - Major Giving is a key player within the Major Gifts team, responsible for seeking out opportunities to engage and solicit major gifts, beginning at the $10,000 level. Reporting to the AVP of Principal & Legacy Giving, the Director will be responsible for a portfolio of 75 to 100 donors, and will cultivate and solicit potential prospects, donors and lapsed donors. The Director will be a visible presence at advancement department special events, such as donor cultivation events and fundraisers. This role has a hybrid schedule, recognizing that donor cultivation frequently takes place outside the office and that some events take place during evenings/ weekends.

    Responsibilities you will expected to perform:
    • Maintain a personal portfolio of major gift prospects (defined as those giving a gift of $10,000+ in support of Catholic Charities), as well as those donors and prospects that have the capacity to give at the major level or higher.
    • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of prospects, developing and implementing a written donor strategy and relationship record (using Raiser's Edge) of all interactions.
    • Communicate with portfolio through face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship meetings, supported by written strategies; ensure that each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
    • Develop solicitation strategies for donors and prospects in support of the organization's annual fund, planned giving, and growth campaigns; ensure strategies are compatible and maximize opportunities with other existing campaigns and appeals.
    • Support the fundraising efforts of the AVP of Principal & Legacy Giving, Vice President of Institutional Advancement (VP) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in securing new and renewed gifts.
    • With the AVP of Principal & Legacy Giving, track and report on progress to goal to VP and CEO, including solicitation activity, gifts, and pledges.
    • Work with the Advancement team on prospect research to continually identify major gift prospects.
    • Ensure proper donor recognition in all publications and oversee accurate donor lists for those publications.
    • Work with the Donor Relations, Events and Communications teams to strategize and help actively execute cultivation events for major donors and prospects.
    • Be a visible presence at development department special events, such as major donor cultivation events and fundraisers.
    • Project manage annual solicitations ensuring deadlines and fundraising goals are met for Major Gifts.
    What we are looking for:
    • Bachelor's Degree required
    • 3-5 Years minimum of direct or equivalent experience managing high-level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000 and above.
    • Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program, including annual giving, special events, and special projects/campaigns.
    • Superior interpersonal and listening skills and the proven ability to develop and negotiate complex relationships and proposals in person and in writing with a diverse portfolio of donors as well as collaborate with colleagues.
    • Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with high-level donors and prospects.
    • Excellent grasp of Raiser's Edge database software.
    • Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and professionalism.
    Compensation and Benefits:
    The opportunity includes a competitive salary ranging from $85,000 - $120,000 based on experience and a generous benefits package.
