    Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development

    The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD),

    National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland is recruiting for a Senior Investigator

    within its Division of Intramural Research (DIR). NICHD's research activities are directed toward

    developing a greater understanding of the biological, medical, reproductive, and behavioral aspects

    of normal and abnormal human development. DIR is a Division in NICHD's Intramural Research Program

    (IRP) that focuses on innovative transdisciplinary population health through the integration of

    biomedical, biological, epidemiologic, behavioral, and statistical sciences to address the mission

    of NICHD. The DIR scientists provide a critical link between basic and applied research. The

    intramural program has ten programs, laboratories, branches and independent sections, 4 Core

    facilities (Molecular Genomics Core, Microscopy & Imaging Core, Computer Support Services, & Mouse

    Transgenic Core), and a staff of approximately 1100, which includes 65 Principal Investigators,

    over 300 Postdoctoral Fellows and Research/Clinical Fellows. More detailed information about the

    Primary responsibilities of the Senior Investigator for the Section on Pediatric and Adolescent

    Gynecology & Fertility Preservation (SPAGFP) are to (1) Conduct clinical research on ovarian tissue

    cryopreservation for individuals with rare disorders; (2) Conduct basic or translational research

    in an area relevant to the NICHD mission; (3) Study fertility preservation for young girls with

    toxin exposures to the gonads; (4) Collaborate with investigators throughout the United States to

    advance the mission of NICHD.

    Clinical and educational responsibilities of the Senior Investigator for the Pediatric and Adult

    Gynecology Program include training gynecologists to function as consultants in the gynecological

    care of children and adolescent from the prenatal period to age 21. This includes

    (a) management of pelvic masses, vulvar conditions, congenital anomalies, fertility preservation,

    gynecologic endocrine disorders including precocious and delayed puberty and

    (b) provides adolescent gynecological care.

    Qualifications:

    Candidates should have extensive knowledge and clinical experience in fertility and gynecology.

    Candidates should have extensive clinical experience in pediatric and adolescent gynecology and be

    able to demonstrate experience with experience with fertility preservation techniques.

    Candidates must have extensive knowledge of ovarian biology and be familiar with emerging molecular

    and cell biology technologies.

    Experience in managing either a basic science or translational laboratory is required.

    Candidates must demonstrate ability to collaborate with extramural consortia.

    Candidates must have experience leading a clinical research group. This includes a working

    knowledge and experience with developing and implementing clinical research protocols. This

    includes working with Institutional Review Boards.

    Successful completion of the requirements for Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine,

    or equivalent, from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited

    by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American

    Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College

    Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association; or an accrediting body recognized by the

    U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; OR

    Successful completion of a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school

    that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the

    United States that was demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for

    Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG); OR

    Possession of a Fifth Pathway certificate through the successful completion of premedical education

    in the United States AND graduate education from a foreign medical school that provided education

    and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States; OR

    Successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

    Licensure Requirement:

    You must have an active, current, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a physician

    from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the

    United States. NOTE: You will be required to provide your licensure or registration information

    within the assessment questionnaire.

    Candidates must hold a MD or MD/PhD. A focused practice designation for Pediatric and Adolescent

    Gynecology is strongly encouraged.

    Candidates must hold a license to practice medicine in the United States and meet the requirements

    to be credentialed by the NIH Clinical Center.

    The ideal candidate will have a medical degree (M.D., D.O. or equivalent), board certification in

    gynecology, and a demonstrated record of accomplishment in gynecologic diseases and patient care,

    has strong oral and written communication skills, can build and manage an effective and productive

    team, and keeps abreast of the most current techniques and care for patients.

    Knowledge of the following areas is highly desired in addition to pediatric gynecologic diseases:

    reproductive medicine and care of gynecological patients with complex medical problems, including

    cancer and immunological defects. More detailed information about the NICHD DIR may be found at

    Graduate Training Requirement:

    Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, you must

    have at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e.,

    a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution

    accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency,

    and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States

    or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:

    • An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire

    experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine,

    surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals

    or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation

    Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); OR

    • A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an

    institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical

    Association, (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME); OR

    • A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical

    specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in

    the United States for such training.

    SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary is commensurate with training and relevant research experience. A full

    package of Federal Civil Service benefits is available for this position, including retirement,
