    Position Description
    Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

    Major/Essential Functions
    • The laboratory of Daniel M. Hardy, Ph.D. is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join an interdisciplinary, collaborative group studying a range of fundamental questions on transmission of infectious disease and establishment of reproductive isolation during species divergence.
    • The research will be conducted primarily in the Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry in the School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX, in collaboration with labs at Texas Tech University, with an immediate focus on prion disease transmission in wildlife.
    • The position will require extensive interaction and coordination with collaborators' labs, and possibly some field work as needed.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience and expertise in laboratory techniques used in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology research, including handling and processing animal tissues and working with advanced instrumentation.
    • B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.
    • Expertise with molecular biology and protein biochemistry methods.
