About Carter Torrence:
I am a sonography graduate from the University of Oklahoma HSC. I graduated from the College of Allied Health in 2022 with a 4.0 and a bachelor’s degree. I was involved in the Alpha Eta Honor Society, Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, and Oklahoma Sonography Society, and cardiovascular sonography is my desired modality and profession. I am registered with the ARDMS and have obtained my RDCS, RVT, and RDMS (AB) credentials. I have gained experience from numerous clinics in transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, and pericardiocentesis procedures. In vascular ultrasound, I have become proficient in scanning UEV, UEA, LEV, LEA, liver Doppler, renal Doppler, renal tx Doppler, and carotids from the general and vascular-specific clinic sites that I have been assigned to. I am a hard-working individual that strives for diagnostic sonographic images; in addition, I want to ensure that there is positive and constructive communication between the sonographer and cardiologist to guarantee that the patient is receiving appropriate care.
Experience
Norman Regional Health | Norman, OK
echocardiography tech | 05/2022- 05/2023
I worked full-time (40-50hrs per week) at Norman Regional Hospital scanning in-patients, scanning out-patients, assisting in cath lab TEE procedures, and I have experience taking call. I worked between two Norman Regional hospital locations. One hospital was a heart hospital whereas the other was the stroke hospital. I gained a variety of experience scanning both stroke patients and patients with heart disease. I understand how to prep and administer bubble studies for patients with stroke-like symptoms and responsibly administer Lumison to patients with possible myocardial infarction symptoms, cardiomyopathy, or LV thrombus.
St. Anthony's Hospital | Oklahoma City, OK/Pauls Valley, OK
echocardiography student | 05/2022 - 03/2023
I worked part-time (10-20hrs per week) for St. Anthony’s Hospital as a travel echo/vascular tech. I would acquire the ultrasound machine from the main hospital in Oklahoma City and drive down to Pauls Valley to scan Dr. Kassabian and Dr. Latif’s cardiology patients. Therefore, I do have experience as a travel technician, and I understand the process of uploading images and reports to various versions of PACS.
Reason for Quitting Both Jobs in 2023:
I wanted to pursue my dreams of getting into medical school and Lubbock Tx has the resources and opportunities that will allow me to achieve that; therefore, I have moved back to Lubbock Tx as of May 2023 and I plan on staying. I am currently attending school at South Plains College and Texas Tech University taking courses that are prepping me for the MCAT in the future.
Skills:
Since I have worked and rotated at many hospitals, I have used GE centricity, Fuji Synapse, Philips PACS systems. And, I also know how to operate EPIC and Meditech HIS systems.
