    Description

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Commonwealth of Massachusetts teacher certification in specific content area, as well as certification as a Supervisor/Director with a background in curriculum and/or program development.
    REPORTS TO: District Administration/Principals

    JOB GOAL: To provide leadership in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the school system's curriculum and instructional programs. Teach one course 9-12.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Provides leadership in the creation of, and revision of, all curriculum publications, materials and media.
    2. a. Assist in the development of all curriculum learning standards and rubrics and align the standards to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks b. Develop, review, and disseminate approved curriculum guides and course outlines to all staff and administration. Identify, evaluate, and disseminate appropriate curriculum materials and media/software to department staff d. Assist in the development of instructional units that reinforce the approved curriculum Assist in the development of integrated curricular units of instruction f. Assist in the creation of required and elective courses.
    3. Responsible for working with the administration, coordinators, and teaching staff
    in organizing and coordinating grade level and/or department meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical continuity of the curricular program.
    1. a. Articulate horizontal and vertical curriculum consistency among staff and
    among schools Meet with the assistant superintendent, principals, and other coordinators regarding program and curricular implementation c. Conduct regular, monthly meetings with all department staff d. Meet with Parent-Teacher Organizations, School Councils, and School Committee, as necessary
    1. Assist teachers with instructional strategies for curriculum implementation to
    address the needs of all learners.
    1. a. Provide instructional leadership with a particular emphasis on high-quality
    pedagogy, access to rigorous curricular content for all learners, and the implementation of formative assessment strategies to inform future instruction b. Provide instructional leadership with a particular emphasis on the differentiation of instruction
    1. Assist teachers in the implementation of approved curriculum through regular
    consultations, demonstrations, and observations of classroom practice.
    1. a. 6-12 Coordinators: Conduct formal and informal classroom observations of teaching including evaluations.
    staff and provide feedback regarding curriculum implementation, instruction, and formative assessment strategies. b. Collaborate in the formal observation process of department members. Support department staff with personal and interpersonal concerns and support/coach staff in dialogue with parents.
    1. Assist in the identification and provision of the District's yearlong professional
    development programs for teaching staff.
    1. Develop a yearlong, written professional development plan for the
    department staff, as appropriate. Recommend summer curriculum workshop proposals to the administration c. Recommend staff development programs to be conducted after school and during workshop/early release days.
    1. Assist in the interpretation of the program, curricular area, and philosophy to the
    appropriate stakeholders.
    1. Provide recommendations to the administration regarding any proposed
    policy or regulation change that will impact the program and/or curriculum area, e.g., scheduling, grouping practices, grading, alternative programs, etc. b. Serve on any committees investigating policy or regulation changes that will impact the program and/or curriculum area, e.g., scheduling, grouping practices, grading, alternative programs, etc.
    1. 7. Responsible for remaining current in the curricular content area and acting as a
    liaison to local, state, regional, and national curricular organizations.
    1. Responsible for performing other such tasks and assuming such other
    responsibilities that may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
    1. a. Assist in the interview and hiring of department members
    2. Recommend departmental staffing needs and staff assignments to
    principals
    1. c. Conduct on-going meetings with all new departmental staff to acquaint
    them with departmental expectations.
    1. Develop and present short and long-term budget needs to the principals
    and/or School Committee
    1. e. Develop and present any capital project needs to the principals, School
    Committee, and other town committees, as necessary
    1. f. Review and recommend all departmental purchase order requests prior to
    any expenditure
    1. Maintain current budget balances with principals for curriculum and/or
    program area, as appropriate
    1. h. Consult with Director of Technology when considering
    hardware and/or software purchases and provide copies of approved purchase orders to the appropriate professionals, as appropriate
    1. Work with the administration in identifying and pursuing supplementary funding sources to support and/or supplement the curriculum and/or
    program area
    1. Other responsibilities as identified by the District Administration
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Academic coordinators will be paid their base teacher salary, plus 10.00%. The work year consists of 192 days. Salary and other benefits established by contract agreement between the Sharon Teachers' Association and the Sharon School Committee.

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the contract agreement between the Sharon Teachers' Association and the Sharon School Committee.
