The Humanities Curriculum Coordinator plays a crucial role in driving continuous improvement for grades K - 6, ultimately leading to enhanced student success.

Working closely with campus and district leadership, the Coordinator identifies key priorities in literacy and social studies instruction and devises effective plans to address them.

Responsibilities of the Coordinator include supporting leadership and teachers in implementing curriculum and best practices to achieve student learning goals.


Essential Functions:

  • Utilizes content expertise and principles of culturally responsive teaching to guide curriculum selection and implementation, offering professional development opportunities for staff
  • Customizes existing curriculum to better suit the needs of teachers and students
  • Conducts regular teacher observations to provide feedback and identify learning requirements for students and teachers (in collaboration with campus leaders)
  • Assists campus leaders in understanding and implementing the curriculum, as well as in observing and providing effective instructional feedback
  • Selects assessment tools to monitor student learning progress and supports their effective utilization by teachers and campus leaders
  • Analyzes student learning data to pinpoint students requiring extra support, as well as to identify learning trends and areas for improvement
  • Collaborates with campus leaders and teacher teams to analyze their data, draw actionable conclusions, and devise effective action plans to bridge achievement gaps
  • Evaluates student learning and observational data to identify strengths and areas for improvement in instructional practices within classrooms, and facilitates the creation of efficient action plans to swiftly address needs
  • Identifies primary goals and next steps in content area instruction across campuses, supporting leadership teams in setting priorities and devising effective plans to tackle identified areas
  • Promotes the effective use of Collaborative Inquiry teams to analyze data, identify student strengths and needs, review student work, and plan units and lessons effectively
  • Supports the formulation of robust intervention and acceleration strategies, including summer assistance programs
  • Assists in the establishment of effective multitiered support systems by identifying and endorsing best practice intervention strategies, providing or facilitating professional development, advising campus leadership teams on design and implementation, and working closely with Literacy Specialists
  • Organizes/conducts regular professional development sessions to align with campus and district objectives

Additional Functions:

  • Contributes to district professional development initiatives during both the summer and school year, such as the New Teacher Institute
  • Participates in campus-based instructional leadership teams
  • Engages as a member of the district-based academic leadership team
  • Carries out any additional responsibilities or tasks assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, demonstrating a track record of positively influencing student achievement and prior involvement in teacher leadership roles
  • Master's Degree preferred, Bachelor's Degree required
  • Proficiency in curriculum development and/or adaptation
  • Experience with EL ELA considered advantageous
  • Thorough understanding of research-based early and elementary literacy best practices, including assessment techniques
  • Committed to a Science of Reading approach supported by research
  • Deep expertise in and dedication to culturally responsive teaching
  • Skilled in data analysis and strategic action planning
  • Ability to enhance individual teacher practices and foster strong teams
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to cultivate a community of adult learners
  • Proficient in providing and receiving constructive feedback
