    Minimum qualifications:

    • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.
    • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Experience with any of the following: conducting internal investigations related to threats made against companies or employees, officers or agents, physical corporate security; advising companies on compliance with data privacy laws and regulations; the legal mechanisms governing voluntary disclosure and the compelled disclosure of user data by service providers; and advising companies on referrals of criminal matters to law enforcement.
    • Excellent communication skills, and public speaking and team skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Excellent stakeholder management/relationship building skills.
    • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal matters.
    • Ability to travel.

    As Associate Security Counsel, you will provide legal counsel to the diverse range of issues affecting the physical security of keeping Google and its employees safe as part of Google's Security Legal team.

    You will oversee Google's voluntary disclosures to law enforcement regarding security threats affecting Google/YouTube and their employees, and will be responsible for communicating with government agencies regarding these issues.

    You will work closely with lawyers involved in cyber security, child safety, and data disclosure laws, and other members of the internal security, engineering, product, and policy teams.

    The US base salary range for this full-time position is $195,000-$293,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

    The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations.

    Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

    Responsibilities


    • Provide legal counsel to Google teams involved in mitigating physical and cybersecurity threats, such as the protection of Googlers, Google's physical buildings and campuses, and the cybersecurity of our infrastructure.
    • Oversee the referral process to law enforcement agencies of criminal threats made on Google platforms against Google and employees, and work closely with teams across Google on these efforts.
    • Counsel the security teams managing these threats on topics such as information security, law enforcement communications, investigations, detection, and mitigation techniques.
    • Become familiar with and advise on Google's policies relating to data-disclosure requests to help advance our principles and promote the security of Google and its users. Work on relevant Google tools, programs, and privacy initiatives.
    • Communicate with government agencies concerning law enforcement and national security agencies about policy initiatives related to online safety and security.
