    In this role, you will provide leadership in strategic research and assessment initiatives to support academic student success and the achievement of the BYU Mission and Aims, as well as be an integral part of a collaborative team.

    This job is ideal for someone who enjoys working with large volumes of data to provide university leadership access to trusted and actionable data, is committed to academic student success, and can manage projects and people.

    This position requires technical skills plus an understanding of higher education institutional research. The successful candidate has outstanding interpersonal, analytical, and written communication skills. The person must be proficient in statistical, data-oriented software tools such as R, SPSS, SQL, Tableau, and Excel.

    What you'll do in this position:
    Direct strategic research and assessment initiatives to support institutional objectives.
    Lead efforts in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting institutional data to identify trends related to university strategic priorities.

    Lead the development of a university-wide data foundation and data analytics environment that provides access to uniform student-level data for use across the university.

    Manage the institutional research team.
    Represent the Office of Assessment and Planning on committees, task forces, and university-wide initiatives.
    Foster solid and collaborative relationships with academic departments and administrative units to enhance data-informed decision making across the university.

    Master's degree in a discipline employing quantitative knowledge and skills, such as institutional research, measurement, behavioral science, statistics, data science, or a related field, AND five years of experience conducting research, assessment, and analysis in higher education or a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Understanding of broad concepts related to database structures and data analytics.

    Doctoral degree in a discipline employing quantitative knowledge and skills, such as institutional research, measurement, behavioral science, statistics, data science, or a related field, AND five years of experience conducting research, assessment, and analysis in higher education or a related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Required:
    Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
    Understanding of broad concepts related to database structures and data analytics.
    Proficiency in using statistical, data-oriented software tools such as R, SAS, SPSS, SQL, Tableau, and Excel.
    Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive and personal information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion.
    Ability to conduct research using a wide variety of research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative.

    Project management skills:
    consistently handling and following through with multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines.

    Preferred:
    Experience with higher education administration and student information systems.
    Knowledge and experience with creating and updating online dashboards.
    Familiarity with web survey administration software, such as Qualtrics.
    Familiarity with IPEDS.
