    Description

    The Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP), operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), is seeking self-motivated Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor II's or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I's interested in a specialty role.

    The Human Services Coordinator I, functioning as a Licensed or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, will facilitate psycho-educational groups, complete admission assessments, participate in short-term individual treatment, collaborate with community agencies, Clinical staff, and Aftercare staff to make referrals.

    The incumbent meets with clients and participates in team meetings and must comply with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2 and Part 8, Confidentiality of Alcohol Abuse Policy, and HIPAA Regulations.


    Work Schedule:
    The selected candidate(s) will work 40 hours per week from 8:30AM - 5:00PM. The days off are Sunday and Saturday.

    Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive):


    • Facilitates psycho-educational and recovery-based groups.
    • Participates in staff meetings, case conferences, educational conferences, and mandatory training to enhance professional and personal growth.
    • Participates in team meetings.
    • Collaborates with Aftercare staff to determine aftercare needs and coordinate discharge process and aftercare services and needed referrals.
    • Coordinates with Aftercare and Benefits Coordinator to establish client's needs; follow-up on services; create service/support plans goals for rehabilitation and stabilization; plan the delivery of services; and support clients to the completion of services in coordination with aftercare services team.
    • Completes referral packets, work in partnership with the DMH Site and Area Offices and identify adults needing placement.
    • Arrange telephone intakes and /or face-to-face interviews with hallway houses/residential facilities.
    • Completes documentation, i.e. progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, biopsychosocial, discharge summaries etc. Within required time frames.
    • Convey information and explain options to clients with varying expectations, needs, cultures, and languages and assist them in determining the best methods or actions to be initiated on their behalf. In some instances, clients may be resistant or hostile and may require involuntary services.
    • Assesses information of varying complexity from multiple sources to ascertain clinical and health care needs and the next necessary steps to provide services; review written and verbal information; and compare this information to data obtained from other sources.
    • Employees, with input from supervisors, prioritize tasks according to departmental standards set by statute and/or regulations.
    • Other duties as assigned by program/clinical directors to insure safe and appropriate operation of the units.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of substance use and treatment systems and mental health.
    • Knowledge of community resources/systems.
    • Knowledge of basic clinical skills and understanding of human behavior, social work, healthcare, and law.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Ability to negotiate/mediate/diffuse conflict.
    • Ability to think quickly and make independent judgments.

    Program Requirements:

    • Professional licensure as a License Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (LADC II) or Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (CADC I).
    • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with clients with primary substance use disorders; knowledge of substance use and treatment systems.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional licensure in a human service field including, but not limited to LCSW, LICSW, LMHC.
    • Ability to demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward individuals with substance use disorders.
    • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
    • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

    About the Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP):


    The Department of Mental Health (DMH) in collaboration with the Department of Public Health (DPH) Bureau of Substance Addiction Services operates a statewide Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP) for individuals civilly committed by the courts for substance use treatment for up to 90 days ("Section 35 commitment").


    The program model will provide acute detoxification and early clinical stabilization services as we help clients develop community-based linkages to outpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers.

    The individuals treated within this program will be linked upon discharge to a range of services within the DPH continuum of care for substance use conditions.

    RAP provides administrative, medical, clinical, and non-clinical services. Its mission to provide quality client-centered care and recovery-oriented treatment.

    Applicants must have (A) at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional experience in human services work or social work or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

    A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.

    Based on assignment, travel may be required.

    Incumbents who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.
