    Summary

    Golden West College (GWC) is seeking a full-time, equity-minded, tenure track Administration of Justice Instructor commencing with the 2024 fall semester. The assignment includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; tracking and reporting of data for student equity outcomes, collaboration across disciplines and the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development.

    The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, online, and hours outside of the regular semester during Summer and Winter terms as needed. Assignment hours and days are subject to change as needed. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of Golden West College and the Coast Community College District, with a clear, focused commitment to supporting teaching and academic excellence and student learning and success through the work of Administration of Justice Instruction.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    1. Provide instruction in Administration of Justice in accordance with established course outlines.
    2. Provide leadership in the development and revision of the Administration of Justice curriculum responsive to the students served.
    3. Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.
    4. Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas and participate in professional growth activities on and off campus.
    5. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district-wide activities and committees as assigned.
    6. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
    7. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
    8. Ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
    9. Participate actively in department, division, and college committees and in the shared governance of Coast Community College District.
    10. Take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution.
    Qualifications and Physical Demands


    Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, D.E.I.A

    Must meet one of the following qualifications under (1) through (4) and show demonstrated evidence of D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion):
    1. Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code issued prior to July 1, 1990);
    2. Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience; OR
    3. Associate degree and six years of professional experience; OR
    4. Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit/upload an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.
    AND

    Show demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, ethnic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Experience delivering instruction in a Police academy environment.
    2. Evidence of a strong commitment to professional growth and development, and to the continued innovation and improvement of successful teaching.
    3. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with on-campus groups (including students, faculty, administrators and staff) as well as off-campus community and education partners.
    4. Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in a post-secondary setting.
    5. Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of a diverse student population.
    6. Evidence of an ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge level and personality of each individual, group, and class.
    7. Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidenced-based assessment of student learning.
    8. Evidence of innovation, scholarship, or leadership in Administration of Justice instruction.
    9. Ability to work with computers and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and online courses (where academically appropriate); and intrinsic motivation and ability to develop and teach online courses.

    Pay Philosophy

    For a full-time, tenure-track Instructor, a maximum starting range of $66,190 to $112,846 is offered, based on the salary schedule of $66,190 to $157,799. In addition, an annual stipend of $3,861 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
