    Director of Strategic Events & Programming


    The Director of Strategic Events & Initiatives will spearhead the development and execution of Maryland Chamber's event strategy to drive brand awareness, thought leadership, member engagement, and revenue growth.

    This highly visible leadership role will collaborate across the organization to conceptualize innovative event experiences to achieve broader business objectives.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Strategic Event & Initiative Leadership

    • Develop and advance a forward-looking strategic vision and roadmap for Maryland Chamber's event portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities
    • Collaborate across teams and with senior leadership to conceptualize impactful events that drive brand recognition, thought leadership and engagement.
    • Establish event goals, key metrics, and performance tracking to measure success and ROI
    • Continuously identify new/updated event concepts and experiences
    • Spearhead the development and strategic management of key initiatives to develop and deliver programming tailored to different audience segments
    Event Portfolio Management

    • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of all events, overseeing logistics, vendor management, internal and external communication, and resource allocation
    • Develop comprehensive project plans, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery while maintaining high-quality standards
    • Identify opportunities for process optimization and to drive operational excellence
    Revenue Generation & Sponsorship

    • Set revenue targets, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting for events portfolio
    • Devise overarching sponsorship strategies aligned with revenue targets, including creation of tailored sponsorship packages/offerings
    • Collaborate closely with revenue team to identify prospective sponsors and generate targeted lists
    • Build relationships with key sponsors to understand needs and uncover new engagement opportunities
    • Oversee fulfillment of all sponsor deliverables
    • Serve as primary liaison managing consistent, high-touch communication and providing ongoing status updates to all sponsors
    Stakeholder Engagement & Marketing

    • Serve as the face of strategic events, representing Maryland Chamber's interests with internal and external stakeholders
    • Build alignment with Board of Directors, leadership and staff teams, and external partners on event vision and plans
    • Leverage exceptional communication abilities to articulate the event vision and ensure events
    • Coordinate with internal and external teams
    • In coordination with the marketing and communication team and other stakeholders, work to identify target audience segments for each event and assist with development of marketing strategies to reach and engage target audiences
    • Coordinate creation/delivery of marketing campaigns supporting events, including email, advertising, social media, and multi-media content to effectively promote events and drive registration
    Leadership & Project Management

    • Operate as a informal member of the senior leadership team with a dotted-line reporting structure to multiple executives
    • Ensure seamless coordination with leadership and other team members who serve as primary "customers" for events supporting their respective areas
    • Employ exceptional project management capabilities to align stakeholders and execute complex, cross-organizational events and initiatives
    • As responsibilities scale, opportunity to build and lead an event team, providing strategic direction, coaching, and professional development
    • Model strategic mindset, proactive problem-solving skills, and commitment to continuous process improvement

    Qualifications:

    • 8-10 years of progressive event management experience, preferably in association/nonprofit sector
    • Proven track record in developing and executing strategic event visions that achieve organizational goals
    • Exceptional project/program management skills; PMP, CMP or relevant certification is a plus
    • Demonstrated success in sponsorship development, negotiation, and revenue generation
    • Outstanding communication skills with ability to prepare and present proposals to all levels
    • Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, data analysis, and forecasting
    • Self-motivated leader with ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Bachelor's degree in related field; advanced degree is a plus
    • This role has high growth potential from an individual contributor to a leadership position overseeing an event team as Maryland Chamber's event portfolio expands.
