The Cook plans, buys and prepares hot meals and snacks for up to 250 people on any given day. Responsible for dishwashing and other kitchen maintenance. Reports to the assigned Supervisor.

**Core Responsibilities:**

Purchases perishable foods daily, such as bread, milk, etc, and buys fresh fruit weekly.

Plans and posts menus in advance, in consultation with parents, assigned staff members and/or dietitian. Emphasizes nutritional needs of the group.

Sets out dishes, serves food family style to the different program components. Supervises collection of dishes and kitchen maintenance.

Interviews, appraises and supervises other kitchen staff, as required by program.

Prepares and cooks daily meals and snacks.

Purchases and stores all groceries and kitchen supplies and keeps purchases within budgetary allowance.

Shares pertinent information regarding the operation of the kitchen.

Provides nutritional expertise to teachers in preparing classroom food experiences,

Makes appropriate referrals to social service personnel when parents share the nutritional and social needs of the family.

Maintains sanitation requirements of the kitchen and storage areas,

Works with program staff in the coordination of food for special meetings, parent workshops, and community events.

Maintains appropriate records.

Attends required trainings.

Collect, review and utilize data and information on clients and services to inform program/department performance.

Participates in regular supervision and staff meetings as required by department.

Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications:**

High school diploma or equivalent experience. Must have basic skills in reading, writing, and budgeting.

One year of quantitative cooking experience.

Demonstrated understanding of the nutritional needs of children and adults.

Annual physical examination and good physical health.

Completion and maintenance of Food Sanitation Certification.

Demonstrates respect and acceptance of diverse individuals and communities served by, working in partnership with or employed by Childrens Home & Aid including but not limited to race, gender, ethnicity, social-economic status, and LGBTQ populations.

Must have valid drivers license and auto insurance when the position requires an employee to operate a motor vehicle in connection with executing the positions responsibility, which include driving to and/or from any agency function.

**Screenings**:

The applicant must submit to a criminal background check and a child abuse and neglect screening and maintain a cleared status throughout employment.

The applicant must submit to and pass a TB and immunization health screen upon hire and update TB/physicals as required by licensing standards.
