    Default job background
    Description

ERM is looking for a motivated, hands-on Principal Consultant, Remediation Engineer or Geologist to join our growing Contaminated Site Investigation and Remediation teams. The ideal candidate brings significant consulting and project management experience to provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and cutting-edge technical support to grow ERM's Site Investigation and Risk Management (SIRA) and Contaminated Site Management (CSM) service areas. The candidate will work on and manage a variety of site investigation, risk assessment and remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA and regional state programs in Maryland and Virginia, as well in other US and international locations. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise to projects, implementing innovative and sustainable site investigation and remediation technologies. Successful candidates will demonstrate ability to apply understanding of physical sciences to cross-support impact assessments and permitting projects related to renewable energy, transmission, or other capital project developments.

As a Principal Consultant, you will be responsible for safely managing multi-disciplinary project work, supervising, and mentoring junior staff, branding ERM in the marketplace through technical presentations and papers, working with ERM Partners to grow client relationships and develop new opportunities with those clients, and preparing winning proposals. Your experience at ERM will enable you to develop your career along with your leadership, client relationship building, and technical consulting skills. Ultimately, you will be able to support the growth of our business by delivering exceptional value to clients across multiple industry sectors.

Position is in Washington, DC. Hybrid or remote work will be considered.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct and develop complex site investigation and remediation projects with multi-person project teams. Oversee multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.

Collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute site investigation and remediation projects, including participating on teams comprised of SIRA and CSM professionals from multiple offices around the global organization.

Develop and implement strategic business/action plan, provide leadership, and deliver financial results to grow opportunities across ERM's SIRA and CSM service lines [e.g., Brownfields redevelopment, site investigation and remediation, risk assessment, environmental construction management, site closure and decommissioning].

As a senior "seller/doer," contribute to expanding ERM's SIRA and CSM services annually. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership role in the development of new business with new and existing clients. Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.

Capitalize on existing client relationships to expand ERM's profile and market share in the regional SIRA and CSM market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development).

Develop a working understanding of ERM's other consulting service areas and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.

Provide leadership in managing staff performance, recruiting and retention, and mentoring personnel for overall success of technical team.

    REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or geology or a closely related discipline.

PE or PG license/certification and ability to apply for reciprocity is preferred.

Minimum 6+ years of consulting experience conducting CERCLA-style state and federal site assessment and/or site investigation/remediation projects and recognized technical expertise.

Consistent "seller/doer" track record, including successfully writing proposals and winning major projects.

Excellent writing, communication, strategic thinking, and mentoring skills.

Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.

Some travel may be expected (5-10%).

    PREFERRED:

    12+ years of consulting experience

For the Principal Consultant, Remediation Engineer or Geologist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $103,876 - $132,850 (USD). An employee's pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs. We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above. This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.

We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, paid parental leave, medical, dental, vision, life, disability and AD&D insurance, 401(k) or RRSP/DPSP, and any other benefits to eligible employees as applicable.

You can apply for this role through or through the internal careers portal if you are a current employee.

Note: No amount of pay is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable. The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, or any other form of compensation that are allocable to a particular employee remains in the Company's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company's sole discretion, consistent with the law.
