    Equipment Management Specialist - Omaha, United States - Werner Enterprises Inc

    Description

    The main purpose of this position is to independently manage customer drop locations and Werner trailer pools, assign non-Werner assets, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain maximum trailer and container utilization while communicating to our revenue departments.

    The EMS is responsible for tracking and updating systems, assigning and procuring equipment, and maintaining equipment in assigned region/markets for Logistics , Dedicated, and the Van divisions.


    Responsibilities:

    • Manage assigned region's trailer pools by communicating to the customers and receiving verbal, faxed or written yard checks. Process lot checks and make day-to-day decisions regarding trailer needs.
    • Use the Trailer Turn and Min/Max Report to identify customer(s) or trailer situations that jeopardize current company-wide trailer goals, while also maintaining/exceeding these goals.
    • Construct/implement/communicate a plan of action to Region Managers to rectify situations that warrant action.
    • Identify trailer pool overages and shortages. Use this information to plan/coordinate the repositioning of these trailers within the assigned region to areas in need of trailers while maximizing trailer utilization.
    • Maintain strong customer relations with all existing trailer pool customers by continually communicating trailer needs and requests.
    • Create, monitor and manage customer drop locations received from customer service personnel in the AS/400 system.
    • Monitor and manage trailer pools at Werner terminals in assigned region by communicating with on-site maintenance personnel to obtain information and give direction on damaged, storage, and tire trailers.
    • Analyze lot checks for drop yards to determine if more/less yard capacity is needed and if the yards are being utilized correctly.
    • Communicate/track damaged trailer information to the Enroute Department via email to identify and expedite the trailer down time. Effectively relay this information to the customer service personnel.
    • Manage customer trailer pools and identify trailers sitting loaded for an excessive amount of time, and communicate potential detention issues with the Trailer Detention group.
    • Track, manage, and update Werner equipment coming into or already in their region via Intermodal.
    • Assist load planners in the procurement and assigning of Werner equipment to use for Intermodal business.
    • Communicate potential shortages or overages in their region/markets and explore solutions to adjust region/markets.
    • Maintain and monitor the quality of the equipment in their region/markets (e.g. setting equipment up for repair, DOT, etc., at rail ramps.)
    • Manage/monitor storage issues in their region/markets and clear storage as necessary.
    • Work through issues with non-Werner equipment with the appropriate parties and file claims as necessary.
    • Maintain trends and changes of equipment usage in assigned region.
    • Rotating off hours on-call required for the entire EMS team.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
    • Timely and regular attendance according to the scheduled shift as determined by supervisory personnel.

    Qualifications:

    • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
    • Two to three years of customer service experience preferred.
    • Two to three years of transportation experience preferred.
    • Two to three years of AS400 or PC experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of transportation industry and terminology usually gained through practical experience and on-the-job training.
    • Skill in operating a PC, including use of Internet and Intranet applications preferred.
    • Knowledge of U.S. Geography.
    • Knowledge of software such as Microsoft Office including MS Excel (to be tested).
    • Strong communication skills.
    • Strong decision-making skills.
