Position Description:


This position announcement will be used to fill a full-time, permanent, Mail Room Supervisor vacancy in the Office of Central Services with Anne Arundel County Government.


This is limited administrative work in supervising and participating in the operation of the central mail and office supply room.


NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves supervising a small-sized staff in providing central mail routing services and office supplies. Work includes supervising the pick-up, distribution, and delivery of all county mail.

Responsibilities also include establishing storage methods and procedures, maintaining inventory records, and requisitioning items not in stock for a central store of stationery and office items.

Work is performed independently within established policies and procedures, and is evaluated by a superior through observation, conferences, and review of reports.

Supervises the pick-up, distribution, and delivery of all county mail.

Performs or supervises other employees in the receipt, storage, and issuance of supplies and materials.

Maintains or supervises the maintenance of perpetual inventories and prepares store records or reports.

Checks quantity and quality of goods received for conformity to purchase orders and specifications.

Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.

Answers questions regarding mail services and supplies.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of modern mail practices, procedures, and equipment.

Thorough knowledge of store keeping and postal shipping procedures.

Considerable knowledge of organization, functions, and locations of county departments and offices.

Skill in operating various mailroom and standard office equipment.

Ability to make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.

Ability to manage routine operations and to supervise the work of other employees.

Ability to maintain records of minor complexity, to prepare reports, and to perform other moderately difficult clerical work.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

Ability to lift and move moderately heavy items.


Minimum Qualifications:


Graduation from high school; two (2) or more years of experience in providing central mail and office supply services; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.


Supplemental Qualifications:


  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience
  • One (1) or more years of experience operating various mail room and office equipment
  • Work experience in a government environment
