Preferred Qualifications:
BA, BS
MA, MS or beyond in Special Education or Curriculum and Instruction
Valid full approval or endorsement in at least one area of special education from the Michigan Department of Education
Approved, or is qualified for approval, under Michigan Department of Education requirements for Supervisor of Special Education (full or temporary approval)
A minimum of five (5) years of successful certified teaching experience in special education serving students identified with disabilities
Knowledge and understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education and how it relates to the development, implementation and monitoring of Special Education programs, services, procedures and processes
Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
Position Description:
The Special Education Supervisor is a key member of the school leadership team who is responsible for meeting the school's vision of serving all scholars equitably.
The Special Education Supervisor will provide leadership of the team of special education teachers and related supervisors as well as supporting families of learners with disabilities.
Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:ensuring the district's compliance to all state and federal guidelines, overseeing the evaluation process, facilitating IEP and 504 meetings, creating systems for monitoring progress, supporting and evaluating staff, analyzing data and supporting the school leadership team in ensuring instructional excellence.
Position Responsibilities:
Supports development of District wide vision and Strategic Plan; takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the district; owns the implementation of special education instructional priorities in support of the district-wide vision
Ensures students with disabilities are provided with equitable educational programs, experiences, and services commensurate with their needs and abilities
Serve as a resource to staff, families, and the community
Identify and develop appropriate curriculum and school based assessments to support the academic growth of students with IEPs and 504 plans.
Monitor and maintain student, program and compliance documentation including, but not limited to student progress, caseloads, suspension and expulsion, and progress on District Strategic Plan indicatorsMaintain a high level of knowledge and understanding of Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and how it relates to the development, implementation and monitoring of Special Education programs, services, procedures and processes
Identify trends in school performance for students identified with disabilities based on data gathered and as compared to same age peers without exceptionalities
Provide assistance with the investigation, resolution and implementation of corrective actions related to complaints, due process hearings and compliance monitoring
Lead staff in the development, monitoring, and evaluation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 plans to ensure compliance with state and federal mandates, the alignment of instructional objectives with District curriculum standards, and the appropriate delivery of specialized instruction
Supervise and evaluate special education teachers and related service providers
Participate in ongoing professional growth and development to remain up-to-date on researched based best practices
Provide consultation to the executive team, school and district leaders and other relevant stakeholders regarding program operations, compliance, curriculum modifications, and accommodations
Maintain relationships with and interact with families of students identified with disabilities for the purpose of defining and implementing services addressing the unique needs of each eligible student
Other duties and responsibilities as designated by the Chief Academic Officer

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Chief Academic Officer in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
