During your apprenticeship, you will first learn the most important processes such as turning, drilling, sawing, and milling.

Later on, the machining mechanic will manufacture machine components and spare parts on computer-controlled processing machines and will be responsible for programming these so-called CNC machines as well as measuring the parts.

Machining mechanics work in metalworking companies where components are manufactured using cutting processes, such as in mechanical engineering. They usually work in shifts, meaning early and late shifts alternating, and in some companies also night shifts.


Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing workpieces from various materials using cutting production processes according to technical documents
  • Programming and manufacturing with numerically controlled machine tools
  • Getting to know material properties and selecting materials according to their use
  • Planning and carrying out work processes and subtasks while considering economic and time constraints
  • Manufacturing components with handheld tools
