- Manage multiple projects and relay results to principal investigator, confer with the principal investigator and/or Lab Manager to develop initial plans for research experiments, Assist with performing increasingly complex and multi-day experiments (35%)
- Handle live mice to perform all colony management duties including, but not limited to, breeding, collection of samples for genotyping, weaning, aging, and sexing of pups, as well as retiring of mouse breeders Prepare dosages to deliver different drug treatments, biohazard chemicals, and viral capsids to live mice at different age groups through different delivery methods Sacrificing mice and processing of organs and tissues for analyses. Keep careful records by entering information on multiple databases including mLIMS (35%)
- Communicating with representatives of genotyping company to schedule sample analysis and accurate translation of data, communicating with other researchers at different universities for the transfer of collected tissues, sending data, and collecting analysis (15%)
- Communicating with vivarium staff, liaising with staff in Duke University's Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR) to organize animal transfers from other laboratories both within Duke and other institutions nation-wide (10%)
- Training new laboratory personnel in mouse handling (5%)
