- Performing tasks related to the preparation, transportation, assembly, operation, maintenance, repairs, and disassembly of Utility Systems and equipment designed to support the MERS Detachment in a deployed status.
- Operating and maintaining the environmental control units (ECUs) at the deployed site, establishing maintenance schedules, interpreting wire schematics, and specifying and ordering materials.
- Monitoring air quality for temperature and humidity to satisfy sensitive computer and electronic equipment requirements.
- Performing periodic Preventive Maintenance (PM) and repair work prior to, during, and after deployment, on the detachment support equipment: transportable or towable units, support vans, communications and computer vans, power generating systems, cooling heating, lighting, and water purification units.
- Determining the physical plant layouts, writing and implementing plans/procedures and checklists to deploy the ECUs from the VSAB to field sites, set up the systems, and bring them to operational status within 24 hours.

EXCEPTED SERVICE: This is a full-time position in the Mobile Emergency Response Support (MERS) Detachment. MERS positions are in the excepted service. Employees will not acquire civil service status but will have standard and optional benefits.
EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
In this position, you will be part of a detachment that provides mobile telecommunications, operations, logistical, and information processing support to Federal response personnel at specials events and emergency/disaster field operations. Typical duties include:
