- PhD in glass science or engineering or closely related field and 0-2 years relevant experience
- Experience with glass compositional design and synthesis
- Experience with materials characterization techniques such as: X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis (DTA/STA/DSC/TGA), and rheology
- Must be a US Citizen to obtain security clearance.

Description
Job DescriptionSRNL's Glass, Cement & Ceramic Science group is seeking a postdoctoral associate to support R&D projects related to the development of novel waste form technology. In particular, the position will perform research on glass, glass ceramics, and cementitious materials development for the stabilization of radioactive waste, as well as, the incorporation of material sustainability into remediation strategies for these wastes.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are fixed term assignments within the company and benefits eligible.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of fundamental and theoretical glass science related to glass processability in addition to practical experience in glass synthesis and characterization. The candidate should possess an understanding of glass and waste recycling as they relate to glass synthesis, glass chemistry, and glass durability. The candidate must be able to analyze complex data and conduct research under the guidance of senior research investigators.

About the Team
SRNL's Environmental & Legacy Management (ELM) Directorate closely collaborates with the Department of Energy (DOE) and site contractors to develop, mature, and apply science and technology needed to resolve environmental challenges and advance legacy management missions. As the lead laboratory for Environmental Management (DOE-EM) and Legacy Management (DOE-LM), SRNL applies our talent and expertise to develop and deploy innovative approaches and technologies to reduce risk, cost, and schedule of environmental cleanup and nuclear material processing. Additionally, ELM is using our competencies to develop new materials and processes for a range of clean energy applications.
