    Job Description

    Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP) Postdoctoral Research Associates to support the Environmental Management mission at the lab. Qualified individuals must hold a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics from a minority serving institution.

    This position will provide research support for programs related to maintaining the integrity of and evaluating repair/mitigation strategies for high-level liquid radioactive waste tanks and related applications. Millions of gallons of high-level liquid radioactive waste are stored in single-shell and double-shell carbon steel storage tanks located at the SRS and Hanford sites.

    The Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are fixed term assignments within the company and benefits eligible.

    Responsibilities

    The use of polymer grout, cold spray repair and other technologies to repair active or potential leak sites on these tanks are being investigated. The post-doctoral fellow will perform literature reviews, assist with design and setup of experiments to evaluate viable repair options and evaluate experimental data to aid in the development of leak mitigation strategies.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science or similar degree program + 0-3 yrs. relevant experience.
    • Individuals must have completed all requirements for their PhD by the start of employment.

    About the Team

    SRNL's Environmental & Legacy Management (ELM) Directorate closely collaborates with the Department of Energy (DOE) and site contractors to develop, mature, and apply science and technology needed to resolve environmental challenges and advance legacy management missions.
