Mechanical Engineer

McFadden Engineering, Inc. (MEI) is seeking a mechanical engineer in their Mobile, Alabama office to support its water and wastewater engineering projects as well as assist its sister company, Water Reclamation Solutions (WRS), with technology assessment and development. A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering is required. A Master of Science in mechanical engineering and professional engineering (PE) license is preferred but not required. Applicant must have experience in the mechanical design aspects of water and wastewater projects including knowledge of fluid mechanics, pump design, and other mechanical engineering concepts. In addition, candidates should have excellent math skills, familiarity with CAD and other mechanical design software, the ability to think creatively and apply innovative applications to traditional designs. Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills are also necessary for this position.

Responsibilities

Extensive knowledge of product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Able to create 2-D or 3-D designs.
Extensive knowledge in the design and operation of different pumping applications (submersible, suction lift, vertical turbine, flooded suction, etc.).
Knowledge in oxygen production and transfer efficiencies, preferably as it related to water treatment applications.
Provide support to other engineering staff and encourage collaboration.
Monitor and analyze mechanical devices for problems.
Recommend design changes, cost reductions, warranty improvements, and identify manufacturing issues.
Work with marketing and vendors, providing product specifications for their use.
Oversee required engineering qualification tests for project and ensure compliance with all outside parties involved.
Write product specifications, document test results, prepare product operating instructions and review technical literature.
Participate in test runs or field installations.
Analyze processes, design and implement improvements.
Participate in pilot studies, system start-ups, or field installations.

Other Requirements

0-5 years of experience practicing as a mechanical engineer.
Ability to use and learn software tools such as ACAD, GIS, HEC-RAS, water quality modeling software, etc. for design and modeling purposes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience with numerous project management and delivery methods.
