    Summary About the Position:
    This position serves as a Mechanical Engineer within the Engineering Division.

    The Incumbent will be responsible for the design and technical review of mechanical systems related to Military and Civil Works facilities.

    Responsibilities Evaluate mechanical system control schemes for clarity, completeness, accuracy, and/or energy efficiency. Review contractor shop drawings of mechanical equipment, devices, and/or systems for conformance. Select the most economic or least energy intensive mechanical system for engineering design projects. Design mechanical control systems that employ the most current industry best practices for energy efficiency enhancement. Develop plans/specifications for projects using Autodesk Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Specintact software.

    Provide assistance in the negotiation of Architectural Engineering (A-E) contracts by preparing man-hour estimates for the design of mechanical systems.

    Provide technical review of mechanical systems to evaluate economic performance. Verify proper adherence to criteria and/or scope of work on contractor design, repair, maintenance, and/or construction of mechanical systems.

    Provide assistance in the negotiation of Architectural Engineering (A-E) contracts by preparing man-hour estimates for the design of mechanical systems.

    Basic Requirement for Engineers:
    In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

    Specialized Experience:
    One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) developing Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection drawings, plans and specifications, 2.)writing technical reports and/or 3.)performing the technical review of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design products developed internally or by A-E firms.

    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09.

    or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as:

    OR Combination of Education and Experience:

    A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

    To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

    Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18.

    Add the two percentages.

    Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09)
