    Description


    The Staff Accountant ("Accountant") assists the Senior Manager, Accounting and Administration with daily accounting functions, including journal entries, federal and provincial tax return filing, bank reconciliations, fixed-asset reporting, accounts payable maintenance and other special projects as needed.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Create a positive team member experience.

    Client

    Analyzes fixed-asset invoices and prepares fixed-asset reports, including periodic reporting for external audits and tax return preparation. Reconciles fixed assets to general ledger.

    Ensures that fixed assets comply with the Firm's capitalization and depreciation policies and that class lives and depreciation methods are accurate.

    Value

    Prepares bank reconciliations.
    Compiles and analyzes financial information to document business transactions and prepares entries to accounts.

    Manages the entire account payable process Ryan ULC and Ryan Tax Compliance ULC including but not limited to, entry of vendor invoice in the Accounting system, processing of vendor payment by cheque or electronic funds transfer and maintaining record keeping systems related to accounts payable.

    Collects appropriate data and prepares monthly GST and QST returns.
    Monitors compliance with GAAP and Firm procedures.
    Maintains journal entries and is responsible for department archiving activities.
    Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.

    Updates monthly commission allocations for Managers, Sales and Use Tax and Directors, Business Development as well as verifies cross territory, cross company and new client commission adjustments.

    Recommends changes to accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
    Prepares other general ledger reconciliation schedules as needed and collects data for external auditors and third-party tax preparers.
    Maintains petty cash and fixed asset control as well as maintaining and ordering promotional gift cards.
    Responsible for incoming mail and verifying and preparing incoming cheques for accounts receivable coordinator.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Education And Experience

    Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university, and two to four years related experience and/or training in a similar environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Computer Skills


    To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research and experience using various accounting systems.

    Workday Finance experience is a plus.

    Certificates And Licenses

    Valid driver's license is required.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    The position requires limited supervisory responsibilities, including training employees assigning work and reviewing word product for accuracy and completeness.
