- Answers and screens incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from victims, witnesses, suspects, and District administrators, staff, students, parents/guardians, members of the public, representatives from federal and local law enforcement agencies, and other government and non-government entities.
- Evaluates calls by quickly and accurately questioning callers to elicit information necessary to establish the location, nature, degree of severity, priority, and any officer safety risks.
- Maintains contact with more than 30 units by accurately tracking, monitoring, and documenting sworn and civilian personnel movement, activities, and status in CAD.
- Quickly and accurately documents receipt of all calls for service in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Interprets all requests for service(s) needed and determines appropriate response using a high-level of discretion and judgment while considering prescribed procedures and General Orders.
- Expeditiously and accurately directs, via radio and telephone, law enforcement units to respond to potential life or death situations, other emergency, and nonemergency incidents; coordinates the responses of responding units; prioritizes calls waiting to be dispatched.
- Logs and fills out call forms.
- Maintains records of radio calls.
- Summarizes information for broadcasting using clear, concise, and appropriate language in an organized, complete, and accurate manner while using multi-channel radio system.
- Monitors other channels including communication from each school site administrators while maintaining priority law enforcement channels and incoming telephone calls.
- Recognizes units from other departments and agencies and assists them or supplies requested information.
- Responds to officer-initiated radio traffic and requests and disseminates suspect information from calls, prior calls and bulletins and computer-aided system.
- Maintains and accesses business and premise history and index files for emergency and other bulletins and computer-aided system.
- Queries National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and other local, state, and national computer files to determine status of vehicles, persons, and property, and determine existence of wants and warrants; accesses computer systems to provide information to and request information from other agencies.
- Enters criminal history information into NCIC, NCJIS and other local, state, and national computer files; confirms validity and status of information for other agencies.
- Validates criminal history, warrant, and article entries of colleagues in accordance with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) security policy 3 13. Maintains and validates data in local, state, and national computerized databases including NCIC and NCJIS.
- Performs informational searches in the CAD system and other computerized databases upon request.
- Confirms warrants with responsible agencies; receives, enters, and files warrants and updates status of warrants.
- Enter all Washoe County School District issued trespass warnings into CAD system before manually filing for record keeping.
- Enter all traffic citations and juvenile referrals into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Process all incoming volunteer applications for the district.
- Disperse sex offender bulletins to school administration as well as maintaining file system of all bulletins.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

SCHOOL POLICE DISPATCHER TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Chief of School Police, the School Police Dispatcher Technician receives emergency and non-emergency calls; dispatches assignments according to established police procedures; operates various communications center equipment; performs related work as required to include but not limited to fingerprinting and background checks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Education/Experience: Any combination of education/experience that could likely provide the required knowledge in qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma.

Experience: Two (2) years of general clerical experience involving computer operations and public contact.
Licenses/Certificates: Ability to obtain certification of the NCIC/NCJIS criminal history information system.

Experience in law enforcement or public safety dispatching.
Must be willing and able to be called back to work, work overtime, or work varied work shifts.

INCENTIVES
Eligible employees of WCSD receive different benefits depending on their scheduled hours per week.
Eligible Employees who regularly work less than 20 hours per week receive Social Security benefits, salary increases, longevity bonuses, and credit union benefits.
Eligible Employees who regularly work 20 to 24.75 hours per week receive PERS retirement benefits, which are lifetime pension plans for public employees in various states,
In addition to the benefits above. Eligible Employees who regularly work 25 to 27.25 hours per week receive all the benefits above except medical, dental, and vision insurance.
Eligible Employees who regularly work 27.5 hours per week or more receive full benefits of the district, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, holiday pay, vacation pay, sick leave, life insurance, and insurance premiums for summer months.
All eligible employees also enjoy no state income tax and no Social Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or more.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.
