    This position is considered remote, 0-1 days onsite at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week.

    DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in New England:
    Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

    GENERAL SUMMARY:


    The Director of Principal & Major Gifts (PMG) raises funds from individuals, families, and family foundations for priorities in research and care across Dana-Farber.

    The position reports directly to an Assistant Vice President, PMG, and is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and close of $2 millionto$5 million annually in support of research, care, and Institute priorities.

    Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

    The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

    Dana-Farber is currently undertaking an ambitious fundraising effort to change the future of cancer research and care: The Dana-Farber Campaign.

    This multibillion-dollar campaign is the largest in the Institute's history and one of the largest ever in the U.S. focused solely on cancer.

    Philanthropy raised through The Dana-Farber Campaign is focused on accelerating the Institute's strategic priorities by supporting revolutionary science, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and essential opportunities—helping us prevent, treat, and Defy Cancer.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Meet quarterly and annual fundraising goals as determined by the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of PMG;
    Cultivate, solicit, and manage portfolio of approximately 100 $100,000+ prospects;
    Identify prospects for PMG and close on at least $2 million in gifts annually;
    Oversee fundraising for specific disease centers and/or research areas as well as Institute priorities; cultivate relationships with selected faculty and staff at these centers to accomplish goals;
    Work strategically with faculty, staff, Trustees, and Division colleagues to identify, cultivate, close, and steward major gift prospects and donors;
    Collaborate with colleagues in other teams, including Annual Giving, Planned Giving, Corporate Relations, Donor Relations, and The Jimmy Fund, to maximize donor engagement and philanthropic commitment;
    Conduct 8-10 donor visits monthly;
    Track prospect and donor activity in ClearView database; provide activity and revenue reports as requested;
    Assist in planning of special events and forums, including annual Presidential Symposium. Responsibilities include coordinating faculty presentations, communication with co-chairs and attendees/ members, and follow up;
    With AVP of PMG, develop annual fundraising goal; mid-year revision, and year-end reporting as requested;
    Develop and recommend policies and recommendations to enhance fundraising to AVP of PMG;
    Travel to represent Dana-Farber as needed;
    Complete other special projects as assigned by AVP of PMG.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Reports to the Assistant Vice President of Principal & Major Gifts. Shared supervision of one Assistant. Works independently and as part of a team.


    MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


    Bachelor's degree required with 8-10 years' experience with a track record of successful major gifts solicitations in $100,000+ donor category.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and managerial capabilities, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks also required.

    Fundraising experience in a healthcare setting a plus. Public speaking experience and effectiveness necessary, along with the ability to communicate and work with people of all levels. Must exercise significant judgment and confidentiality in working with prospects, volunteers and Institute staff. Some travel and evening and weekend work may be required. Microsoft Office Suite familiarity necessary.

    This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events.

    Experience with diverse donors is a plus.
