Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

    Position Summary:

    The Senior Services Case Worker will assist older adult clients with initial and renewal applications for benefits and entitlements, housing, orders of protection, etc., at the Brooklyn Hub, in clients' homes, virtually, and at various community sites when/as needed. The Case Worker will screen clients for elder abuse and will provide support as needed to Geriatric Social Workers working on the Elder Abuse Prevention Program.

    Principal Responsibilities:
    • Assist seniors and Elder Abuse clients with document collection.
    • Assist seniors and Elder Abuse clients with applying and recertifying for benefits and entitlements, and housing applications.
    • Conduct home visits as needed.
    • Accompany clients to appointments regarding their applications at places such as Court, Social Security, HRA, SCRIE, and others as needed and appropriate.
    • Provide assistance with applications for emergency food cards and/or financial assistance as needed.
    • Perform client intakes, elder abuse screenings, case notes, and enter clients' information into the agency's database system.
    • Conduct community outreach and presentations as needed.
    • Additional responsibilities as required.
    Competencies:
    • Detail oriented with the ability to document all work in a client data system in a timely manner.
    • Patience and ability to manage clients with complex and multiple needs.
    • Ability to work autonomously in the field and take initiative to seek out information and resources that meet clients' needs.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    Skill and Education:
    • Bachelor's degree (preferred)
    • Previous work experience in the social services field
    • Previous experience working with older adults and/or providing case management (a plus)
    • Bilingual English/Yiddish, English/Spanish or English/Russian (preferred)
    • Excellent computer skills
    Physical Demands:
    1. Required Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and foot
    2. Required Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)
    3. Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pulling
    Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 per year.
