- Designing and leading projects to support clients with identifying, assessing, managing, and quantifying the financial impact of climate-related risks and opportunities, aligned with the International Finance Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation's S2 Climate-related Disclosures standard, incorporating the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.
- Managing project teams to ensure successful and profitable delivery of client projects, as well as supporting other Project Managers as needed.
- Supporting service development, as Montrose continually expands and matures its services offerings around climate impact and climate risk.
- Providing coaching and training to team members and others to support service delivery.
- Working closely with team members focused on climate impact (e.g., greenhouse gas inventories, science-based target setting, decarbonization planning) and broader sustainability advisory to identify synergies and jointly develop client opportunities.
- Identifying and attending key events for sponsorship, speaking opportunities, and brand exposure.
- Working with Marketing to establish focused campaigns in order to develop new leads.
- Collaborating with other Montrose Lines of Business (LOBs) to identify cross-selling opportunities for well-rounded revenue streams.
- Keeping up to date and knowledgeable on climate and broader sustainability trends, frameworks, standards, and regulations.
- Exercising safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including participation in required safety training programs.
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, sustainability, climate science, or other environmental science/environmental studies discipline.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in climate impact and climate risk consulting, with demonstrated business development, team management, and project management/execution responsibilities. Preference is given to candidates who have worked directly with oil & gas, manufacturing, and chemical sector clients. (Note: consulting experience is a must for this role; in-house experience only will not be sufficient.)
- Demonstrated experience with most or all of the following technical areas:
- Interpreting and implementing the requirements of relevant climate-related regulations and frameworks, including TCFD, IFRS S2, CDP, and others
- Establishing processes for identifying, assessing, and managing climate-related risks, integrated into broader risk management processes
- Identifying short-, medium-, and long-term climate-related transition risks and opportunities for corporates across a variety of sectors
- Supporting climate-related physical risk identification and assessment
- Determining the impact of climate-related risks and opportunities on a company's business, strategy, and finances.
- Conducting scenario analysis and modeling resilience across multiple climate scenarios
- Developing risk mitigation and adaptation strategies and plans
- Establishing oversight and other governance around climate, both at the board and senior management level
- Conducting Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions inventories in accordance with the GHG Protocol
- Establishing science-based targets for near- and long-term emissions reductions
- Supporting decarbonization planning (e.g., climate transition plans, net zero plans, etc.)
- Understanding of carbon offsets, carbon credits, carbon trading, and renewable energy certificates (RECs)
- Additionally, preference is given to candidates who also have demonstrated experience with one or more of the following technical areas:
- Materiality/double materiality assessments (including stakeholder engagement and peer benchmarking)
- Goal and target setting for material issues beyond GHG emissions
- Issue-specific E, S, and G policy and program development
- Action planning for goal achievement
- Enterprise-wide sustainability governance, leadership engagement, and integration
- Sustainability/ESG reporting, including reporting in accordance with key frameworks and regulations (e.g., GRI, SASB, IFRS S1, CSRD)
- ESG ratings and rankings analysis, prioritization, and improvement initiatives (e.g., ISS, MSCI)
- Effective and efficient project management skills, including experience developing project proposals/budgets.
- Ability to work effectively independently as well as in teams (in particular, in a remote working environment).
- Natural leader: enthusiastic and motivated self-starter, with willingness to pitch in for the benefit of the team and the company.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with cross-functional teams and all levels of personnel/management, both internally and externally.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work with agility across those responsibilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Excellent writing and presentation skills; effective communicator, comfortable engaging with client at all levels of the business.

The Service Line Lead - Climate Risk (internal title: Senior Associate) plays a critical role in enriching and expanding the services Montrose brings to its clients through our Sustainability and Climate Advisory (SCA) team. Given the pressures today's companies are facing to proactively understand and address their climate risks, opportunities, and impacts, this role will work with the VP, Sustainability and Climate Advisory and the full SCA team to develop, sell, and deliver climate risk services and solutions to our clients.
This role is likely to entail relatively equal parts of business development, service development, project management, and people development. You'll regularly interact directly with clients and will be part of a strong team of committed environmental sustainability professionals. You'll need at least 10 years of directly relevant experience, preferably in sustainability consulting for industrial clients (e.g., oil and gas, chemical, power, and/or manufacturing sectors).
