    OVERVIEW:
    As a Safety/Environmental/ Hazardous Material Technician, you will be at the forefront of maintaining a secure workplace, conducting thorough inspections, and navigating the intricacies of environmental and hazardous material regulations.


    MAJOR ACTIVITIES PERFORMED:


    Shall have a working knowledge of various environmental and hazardous material regulations and instructions to ensure that environmental laws are adhered to.
    1. Conducts monthly and annual vessel and facility Workplace Safety/Hazard Inspections.
    2. Conducts daily waterfront inspections for safety and environmental hazards.
    3. Identifies workplace hazards and conditions and takes appropriate action to ensure a safe workplace
    4. Investigates, prepares, and forwards reports on Safety and Environmental related accidents and near-misses
    5. Conducts hot work inspections and safety inspections of oil, hazmat, ballast and rainwater pumping operations.
    6. Must be able to pass First Aid training and administer basic first aid as required.
    7. Conducts safety and environmental inspections of asbestos and preservation operations.
    8. Conducts atmospheric testing for safe personnel entry and hot work in enclosed and confined spaces.
    9. Identifies, collects and performs sampling and analysis of hazardous materials and waste such as oil, oily water, asbestos, PCBs, lead and mercury.
    10. Conducts heat stress monitoring and noise surveys.
    11. Identify and repair shipboard insulation discrepancies.
    12. Perform shipboard mold abatement.
    13. Responsible for the facility's hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage and disposal, including operating the Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area.
    14. Responsible for pre-designation of waste prior to generation and disposal.
    15. Prepares reports of safety inspections and discrepancies.
    16. Monitors shipboard maintenance operations to ensure compliance with Global's Safety and Health Plan.
    17. Travel as necessary (including out of country) to conduct company business.
    18. Have a working knowledge of all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection and safety.
    19. Monitor line-handling and ship movement evolutions to ensure compliance with safe work methods.
    20. Adhere to all corporate core values, policies and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.
    21. Must be able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.
    22. Must be available to work overtime if required.
    23. Conducts safety briefs for visitors
    24. Generates casualty drill scenarios and monitors employee actions during drills
    25. May be exposed to sharp edges, fall hazards, hazardous chemicals and conditions, poor illumination and inclement weather.
    26. Work phase is normally moderate with short periods of high activity during power outages, severe weather or ship movements.
    27. Position requires climbing of vertical and inclined ladders and brief periods in strained positions, such as kneeling, stooping or maneuvering in close quarters.
    28. Must observe safety precautions and ensure compliance in safety.

    RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:


    (a) Employee Relations: Must maintain a close and effective working relationship with all employees
    (b) Material or Product: As required by contract
    (c) Equipment: Government Furnished Property, Government Furnished Vehicles, Equipment and
    materials as provided by the government
    (d) Money: None
    (e) Business Contacts:
    a. Internal: All employees, leadership and management
    b. External: Military, Sub-Contractors and government representatives

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    Minimum: Shall have a working knowledge of various safety, environmental, hazardous material and hazardous waste regulations to ensure that safety and environmental laws are adhered to. Shall have thorough knowledge of 29 CFR 1915 Maritime Industry Standards; and 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards. Shall have working knowledge of the Federal Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA); Navy Safety & Occupational Health program; Environmental Protection Act; Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA); Water Pollution Prevention
    Act; Naval Inactive Ships Maintenance Office Instructions; and other Federal, State & Local regulations and instructions related to environmental and personnel protection. Two years of education related to hazardous material career field and two (2) years of relevant hazardous material experience or relevant experience in the military.
    Must have general computer skills and Microsoft Office program skills. Must have a current driver's license and meet the requirements of the company's Vehicle Safety manual. Must satisfactorily complete the following qualifications/certifications within specified time period per Offer Letter:

     Shipyard Competent Person (gas-free) certification
     AHERA Building Inspector Certification
     40-hour HAZWOPER Certification
     Forklift operator
     Medically qualified and able to wear a negative pressure respirator

    Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in related field, and two (2) years of education related to the hazardous material career field and two-years of relevant hazardous material experience or relevant experience in the military. OSHA 10-hr. and 30 hr. Maritime Card. Trained in sampling and analysis of wastewater per OPNAVINST series).


    General Information:
    In order to perform the essential job functions of this position, the candidate must be able to compose/write descriptive reports and verbally direct individuals and groups.

    Comprehensive knowledge of SOP's and directives governing Environmental Protection and Hazardous Material
    handling and disposal.
