    Position Summary
    The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) Senior Financial Manager plays a pivotal role in managing financial operations and ensuring fiscal compliance within the VTH. This position involves a keen understanding of both financial principles and the unique operational dynamics of a large academic veterinary teaching hospital. The incumbent collaborates closely with hospital leadership to optimize financial performance while maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency.

    This position reports directly to the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Administrative Financial Director and indirectly to the VTH Director. The Senior Financial Manager is housed and works at the VTH and will be responsible for management of the VTH's financial operations including supervision of the Financial Services Manager and the hospital's Business Manager. The manager will work with the CVM Dean's Business Office and the UGA Finance Division as a liaison for the VTH and serves on the VTH Senior Administrative team and Board of Directors.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
    • Knowledge of accounting principles relating to accounts payable, receivables, debits/credits within the general ledger, purchase orders, blanket orders, and check requests.
    • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in utilizing multiple software platforms to generate and gather data, in addition to analyzing information to problem solve.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Experience with financial management systems (e.g., PeopleSoft) and veterinary or medical information systems (e.g., VetView) is desired.
    • Willingness to learn new systems as they evolve is expected.
    • Ability to retain a significant amount of information including UGA policies and procedures and make appropriate conclusions and decisions.
    • Previous experience in financial management within an academic or medical institution.
    • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards relevant to University of Georgia policy and State of Georgia rules and regulations.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make data-driven recommendations.
    • Leadership experience, including the ability to motivate and develop a team of financial professionals.

    • Primary responsibility of the position is financial planning and analysis utilizing multiple sources of data streams.
    • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the VTH's goals and objectives.
    • Conduct regular financial analysis to assess revenue streams, expenses, and budget variances.
    • Prepare financial forecasts and projections to support strategic decision-making processes.
    • Analyzing data and revenue information for the overall hospital, identifying any relevant trends vs. previous periods and communicating them to VTH upper administration.

    • Work collaboratively on the annual budgeting process with VTH and CVM leadership.
    • Monitor budget performance throughout the fiscal year and provide recommendations for adjustments as needed.
    • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements while ensuring quality service delivery.
    • Approve VTH purchase orders, payment requests, p-card expenditures, and journal vouchers.

    • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for VTH and CVM leadership.
    • Communicate financial results and key performance indicators in a clear and concise manner.
    • Interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights to support decision-making and performance evaluation.
    • Data Extraction - working directly in One Source and the budget cubes to obtain more detailed hospital financial information.

    Duties/Responsibilities
    • Revenue cycle management responsibilities include working with the Financial Services Manager to oversee revenue cycle functions and record auditing for accuracy to maximize revenue capture and minimize billing errors.
    • Reconcile VetView accounts with VTH University accounts.
    • Work with the Business Systems Information Manager and the Financial Services Manager to implement and maintain effective billing and coding practices.
    • Oversee the Financial Services Manager in the management of instructional discounts, administrative adjustments, and client support funds.
    • Assist Financial Services with client billing disputes as necessary.
    • Analyze revenue trends and implement strategies to enhance revenue growth and diversification.

    • Monitor VTH accounts and processes, report on key metrics, and ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies, and procedures at the institutional and regulatory levels.
    • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and address audit findings in a timely manner.
    • Monitor preparation of and submit sales tax reports.
    • Work collaboratively with CVM Development and Alumni Relations and oversee the Financial Services Manager in the management of client support funds.
