Job Brief

We need you as part of a team of dedicated process development engineers in the creation, demonstration, and validation of scalable operational processes originating from comparable bench or laboratory level capability or prototype techniques. You will join the Process Development team under the Technology Development Division, which is responsible for supporting CO2-transforming electrolyzers (stacks).

The Process Development team is establishing Twelve's pilot line to support product development and initial customer engagement, and define our manufacturing processes with vertical integration of membrane electrode assembly (MEAs) and electrolyzer reactor assembly. As a part of the team, you will explore, create, and validate technologies and iterate on processes extending Twelve's production capabilities from design concept into proto-type and manufacturing scales.

You will work across the company engaging with chemists, operations staff, software engineers, electrochemical engineers, mechanical and hardware engineers, and process engineers to deliver these processes and help us introduce the world's first CO2 electrolyzer at scale.

What you will do

• Your first projects will focus on establishing appropriate quality metrics, increasing efficiency and capability of current electrolyzer reactor (stacks) processes.
• You will lead experiments to understand failure modes, reliability, and fatigue life of hardware and stack systems.
• You will optimize quality, schedule, and financial impact of stack designs for production operations
• You will coordinate troubleshooting, problem solving, issue ticket resolution of stacks systems.
• You will assist in the establishment of a new product development pipeline and champion its implementation
• You will be supported by a diverse team of scientists and engineers throughout the company to develop, optimize, validate, and document these processes.
• Within months, it is our goal to have our first generation process scaled and validated, after which it will be transferred to Twelve's operations group. You will have the opportunity to partner with other teams at Twelve.
• You will influence the next generation of Twelve product design and operations by being the subject matter expert in electrolyzer processes.

Who you are

• You are able to demonstrate at least one of the following:
  • Proven experience in scaling electrolyzer processes from lab, to pilot, to full scale production with an understanding of how each stage provides value to the company.
  • Operational experience in fuel cell, reactor, pressurized system assembly or similar processes at pilot and production volumes.
  • Understanding of mechanical, pressure vessel product development, and safely designing experiments with pressurized systems.
  • A quality focused approach to process development with experience in NPI (New Product Introduction) strategies and requirements.
  • Experience in producing materials for energy storage or ion exchange in the battery or fuel cell industry; alternatively, experience interacting with, or managing relationships with suppliers, vendors, and/or contract manufacturers of those materials.
• You are proficient in analyzing and presenting data (experience with Python or SQL programming languages and JMP statistical software a plus), and at least a minimum familiarity with accessing data from a database; you have curiosity and comfort applying fundamentals to learn about and solve problems outside your subject matter expertise.
• You enjoy creatively building new hardware systems that will bring proto-type ideas ("skunkworks" projects) to commercially relevant production scale, standing up new technical systems and deploying them across an organization, as well as in test method development for quality control purposes.
• You are a mission-driven individual who is comfortable working in a start-up environment and capable of leading cross-functional teams through project management while prioritizing safety throughout your workflow and familiar with Six Sigma, LEAN, and Statistical Process Controls.
• You have a Bachelors in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrochemistry, or a related discipline with 5+ years of industry experience; MS with 3+ years of industry experience.
• You have experience transferring processes from prototype to production, including the preparation of technology transfer packages and documentation (specifications, PFDs, PFMEAs, SOP, etc) and training operators.

United States Wage Range: $128,000-$160,000
