    Who We Are

SMGW is a non-profit organization committed to empowering program participants to realize significant and positive life changes through the Next Step program. The heart of Next Step is casework/coaching, STRIVE employment readiness training, and Adult Basic Education (ABE). Program team members partner with participants to set goals and remove barriers to achieve them - largely but not exclusively in areas of employment, housing, health, and education. For 38 years SMGW has had a diverse team comprised of full-time paid staff and part-time volunteers who are as committed to change-work with individual participants as they are to community change-work through deliberate collective action to end systemic racism and achieve socio-economic and racial equity for all. While we are faith-based, we have no religious requirements for participation or employment.
