SUMMARY:
The Production Manager is responsible for managing all production and related activities in an assigned production plant(s).
An essential element is the ability to lead the group to higher performance (housekeeping, process variability, product quality, etc.).
The position is responsible for environmental compliance, safety, quality, productivity, personnel management, fixed costs and management systems.
The Production Manager sets departmental goals and targets, manages and reviews subordinates and interfaces with other operations technical support disciplines to achieve those targets and goals.
The Production Manager has the knowledge and ability to act as the Process Engineer as well as implement minor capital projects.
DUTIES:
Responsible for safety, environmental and regulatory compliance for assigned plant(s).
Manages departmental personnel that include setting goals and targets, disciplinary action, training and review of subordinates in accordance with policies and guidelines.
Responsible for product quality, non-conforming product investigation and addressing non-conforming product utilizing the corrective and preventive action system.Responsible for productivity and meeting production schedules.
This includes shutdown, repairs and projects.
Manages fixed costs including maintenance and repair, personnel and supplies costs.
Helps develop company policies and guidelines.
Manages process optimization program that includes continual improvement programs for process, human capital development and management systems.
Responsible for the housekeeping and "5S" program, and a KAIZEN culture.
Supports Maintenance Department to maximize equipment reliability.
Initiates and implements minor capital projects.
Interfaces with Planning and Purchasing to maintain and control raw material and finished goods inventories.
Provides final approval for technology transfer from R&D to manufacturing.
Responsible for investigating root cause of customer complaints if required.
Participate in establishing the annual fixed cost, TCR and capital budgets.
Coordinate activities with maintenance to maximize efficiency and minimize cost.
Approves all department procedures and forms.
Supervises the work and safety performance of all plant operations for assigned production areas.
Executes supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing
work; reviewing and approving time sheets, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Must keep priorities clearly and promptly communicated to the Operations group as well as to all others stakeholders.
Have knowledge of and comply with all emergency, evacuation, spill response and general personal protection policies and procedures.
Complies with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulatory guidelines.
Attends external and internal training classes, courses or seminars as required by management.
Ensures that proper and sufficient shift change communications and inter-departmental communications are effective.
Maintains required records and issues reports as required.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or the Vice President of Operations and Engineering.
REPORTS:
This position reports to the Director of Operations.
This position supervises 15 or more employees.
An Assistant Manager reports to this position as well.
BUDGET:
This position is responsible for the following budget: Plant operations budget.
Budget Range:
$1,000,001 or more.
