We are a private company established in 2020 and supported by leading venture capital investors in aviation and autonomous driving. Our clientele includes some of the largest airlines and ground handling providers globally.
Description
We are seeking a proficient System Safety Lead to drive the development, enhancement, and implementation of reliable, safety-critical systems for autonomous driving within the airport environment.
We need an experienced safety expert well-versed in functional safety and systems engineering to create an innovative safety framework for autonomous airside driving.
Your role is crucial in establishing, overseeing, and maintaining the strict engineering standards necessary for the fail-safe operation of an autonomous driving system for low-speed airside driving.
Utilizing your strong functional safety background, you will lead diverse teams in developing safety critical subsystems and building the safety case to validate and safeguard the solution's integrity.
You will collaborate closely with autonomy software, hardware, software, and commercial operations teams to achieve these objectives.
This role provides a skilled safety professional with a technical, hands-on opportunity to lead the development of a groundbreaking enterprise product that integrates autonomous vehicle technology with a robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) business model.
Your responsibilities will include selecting and implementing cutting-edge techniques along with established technologies to support the safe development and deployment of perception, motion planning, localization, and control capabilities for various driving scenarios at global airport hubs.
This position will collaborate closely with our co-founders and the Head of Autonomy.
What You'll Do
- Lead teams in designing safety-oriented systems for autonomous driving in the airside operating environment.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to establish and document safety protocols.
- Set essential objectives with safety and architecture teams.
- Oversee the production of safety manuals.
- Define system behaviors for critical safety situations.
- Ensure safety in all aspects of ground vehicle autonomy, working with engineers and key clients.
- Enhance the safety, reliability, and performance of our autonomous driving system across multiple platforms.
- Identify and communicate potential risks, collaborating across functions to devise solutions and risk mitigation strategies.
**Qualifications**
Minimum Qualifications

- Extensive experience in developing safety-critical systems.
- Leading an interdisciplinary team in the development and deployment of a robotic system or autonomous vehicle with safety-critical components.
- Knowledge of safety standards in developing and deploying complex autonomous systems (e.g., ISO 26262, ISO 21448, UL 4600, IEC 61508, ANSI B56.5).
- Creating a safety case for a complex autonomous system including safety-related artifacts like Hazard Analyses (HARAs), FMEAs, or FTAs.
- Ability to explain technical issues and solutions at all business levels, both within and outside the engineering community.
- Willingness to engage hands-on and enjoy the process.
Ideal Qualifications
- Leading a safety team with experience in aviation and airline ground operations.
- Familiarity with the airside driving environment at major global airports.
- Developing functional and SOTIF safety requirements and roadmap for an autonomous vehicle.
- Leading a safety team in the development and deployment of a robotic system with safety-critical components.
- Expertise in cybersecurity, particularly for automated vehicles.
- MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
