- For pre-law advising, attention will be given to advising all pre-law students and alumni, with a special emphasis on developing and implementing a new pre-law model of advising, programming, resources, and application assistance.
- For pre-health advising, attention will be given to advising all pre-med/pre-health students and alumni, with a special emphasis on programming and resources for freshman and sophomores. In addition, the advisor must have very strong writing and editing skills, as a central component of this position is editing Committee Letters for applicants to medial and dental school.
- Advise students and alumni on all aspects of the pre-law and pre-med/pre-health tracks, including course selection, pre-law and pre-health professional school requirements, and gaining relevant and meaningful experiences that best support a student's interest while strengthening a future professional school application.
- Communicate advising extensively and efficiently with students in person, virtually, and by email.
- Serve as an advisor to pre-law clubs and student organizations on campus.
- Support students applying to master's, post-baccalaureate, and related graduate school programs.
- Support students in handling uncertainty and disappointment, and redefining goals.
- Advising students and alumni regarding the readiness and timing of their applications for law, medical, or dental schools.
- Assist students and alumni as they navigate the pre-law and pre-med/pre-dental application processes.
- Read and edit committee letter for medical and dental school applicants.
- Read and edit personal statements for pre-law, pre-med, and pre-dental applicants.
- Coordinate and present workshops pertaining to the pre-law and pre-med application processes, in-person and virtually.
- Develop an advising and programming model for pre-law students and alumni.
- Create programming and resources for First-Year Mentors, Resident Advisors, and other groups that work closely with first year students and sophomores.
- Build opportunities for faculty/student mentoring and connections.
- Present/facilitate office presentations and workshops, in-person and virtually.
- Participate in advising initiatives with the Office of Academic Advising and other campus advising offices.
- Represent the office in special programs planned by the office and/or in conjunction with other offices including First-Year Experience, JUMP, Residence Life, Life Design Lab, Post-bac Premedical Office, and more.
- Represent Johns Hopkins University to the admissions offices of professional schools and professional associations, both as an advocate for the Hopkins program as well as an advocate for applicants.
- Assist in collaborative efforts with the Center for Student Success to build community for FLI and URM students that includes academic support, mentoring and career exploration.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with students. Alumni, faculty, prospective applications, families, law school admissions deans, and medical school admissions deans.

- Preferred experience with Canvas, Survey Monkey Apply, Qualtrics or similar systems is helpful.
- Master's Degree.
- Three year's experience.
- Additional experience may substitute for advanced education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Three to five years of experience working with students in an advising/counseling capacity and a master's degree in counseling, higher education, or related field.
- Preference is for academic advising and/or pre-professional advising experience.

The Office of Pre-Professional Programs and Advising serves undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences pursuing professional education in medicine, other health professions, and law. At The Johns Hopkins University, pre-law and pre-health advising includes advising students and alumni as they pursue their career goals, assisting students with course selections, designing and implementing workshops, creating and promoting resources, serving as liaison to key academic departments and schools, and establishing and cultivating relationships with admissions deans/directors at professional schools.
We are seeking an Academic Advisor, Pre-Professional who is experienced advisor with strong communication skills and an ability to guide students as they reflect upon their goals, clarify their interests, and make informed and independent decisions. They must be an inclusive, positive, kind, and hard-working team player who is proud to be part of the Hopkins family and wants students to succeed.
The selected candidate will spend 50% of the time on pre-law advising and initiatives, and 50% of the time on pre-health advising and initiatives.
