    Product Development Engineer

    Lancaster, PA


    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Conducts advanced thermal related product development activities and research. Solves engineering problems with real-world products and equipment using mechanical and thermal intuition and reasoning. Supports engineering activities as required.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


    Heat Transfer: Demonstrates a good understanding of conduction and convection heat transfer. Additional experience with two-phase thermodynamics, flow, and/or heat transfer is a plus.


    Thermal Systems: Beginner to advanced understanding of two-phase system operation and performance prediction. Example applications include heat pipes, vapor chambers, thermosiphons, HVAC and/or refrigeration systems.


    Solid Modeling: Beginner to proficient at designing products with an approved solid modeling program, such as SolidWorks, and creating properly dimensioned drawings.


    CFD Analysis: Beginner to proficient at CFD analysis using one or more approved programs such as Flotherm, FloEFD, Fluent, or StarCCM.


    Experimentation: Able to design experiments and test prototypes. Demonstrates a hands-on approach to work in the lab and can work with technicians to build and test prototypes.

    Technical Writing and Reporting:
    Some skill at writing technical reports, proposals, journal papers, and/or technical articles.


    Sales Support: Supports sales through proposal writing, conducting analysis, and generating solutions to customer's requirements, preparing datasheets, customer visits and preparing cost/bid supporting information.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Engineering with no experience needed. A Master's degree (M.S. or M.E.) and/or a PhD in Engineering with specialization in heat transfer or a subject area of the thermal sciences is a plus.


    Language Skills

    Has the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write technical papers involving original or innovative ideas. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to senior management, engineers, customers, and/or public groups.


    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, algebra, and statistical theory.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen.

    The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to use a computer, operate test equipment, and/or build prototype units.

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT


    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Attire is business casual. Steel-toed (or equivalent) shoes and safety glasses are required in the lab and production areas.
