Job Objective:


The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains ongoing, highlevel surveillance of patient cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders.
  • Measures and interprets patient heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards.
  • Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry.
  • Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both Central Telemetry and clinical areas.
  • Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Clinical Engineering as appropriate.
  • Gives report to oncoming shift.
  • Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations.
  • Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Clinical Engineering.
  • Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors.
  • Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.
  • Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of AVH.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

  • Assist in special projects/assignments as needed

Education and Experience:


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the Basic Dysrhythmia test with a minimum of 90% accuracy, identifying all lethal rhythms with 100% accuracy.

Experience

  • Minimum one year experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Previous Monitor Tech experience greater than one year preferred

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:


  • Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health care Providers
  • Maintain annual competences including successful completion of the annual monitor tech skills test
