    Job Description

    Positions in this job family are responsible for recording and transcribing court proceedings.

    This position is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is remote work eligible.

    However, the applicant will be required to be in office an average minimum of 25%, but this is subject to change.

    All Court Reporters must be available at any time during the workday as needed and required for hearings and/or meetings.

    This position is not remote work eligible for a minimum of the first thirty (30) days of employment and any determination regarding remote work eligibility shall be determined by the Division Director and/or the Deputy Division Director.

    At all times, remote work is a privilege and is not a right of employment with the OCC and is subject to change based job performance, agency needs, and/or division needs.

    Typical Functions


    • In-person Court appearances.
    • Daily and Weekly completion of workload reports with assigned deadlines.
    • Administrative duties.
    • Daily use of personal Court Reporter Equipment.
    • Daily use of Commission specific technology including but not limited to Laserfiche (LF) and ECF (Electronic Case Filing).
    • Daily use of Microsoft Office applications to include but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Office 365.
    • Daily use of Adobe PDF Software.
    • Takes verbatim recordings of court proceedings held before the Corporation Commission, as well as hearings before Administrative Law Judges and Referees of the Commission.
    • Transcribes recordings when requested and maintains files of transcripts and exhibits.
    • Maintains complete records of hearing dockets before all courts of the Commission.
    • Prepares case-made records of testimony, exhibits and all evidence filed and introduced for appeal to the Oklahoma Supreme Court, as well as Federal Commissions.
    • Maintain detailed and organized files.

    The Court Reporter job family consists of only one level of work and incumbents will perform functions associated with the assigned position.

    Education and Experience

    Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of Statutory Requirements 2 O.S. 1981, Section 106.

    3(B):

    Incumbents must be certified/licensed by the State Board of Examiners of Official Shorthand Reporters; or if no certified or licensed reporters are available, an acting shorthand reporter temporarily certified by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court may be employed for a period not to exceed a maximum of twelve (12) months.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

    OCC court records are maintained in electronic format.

    The OCC has developed its own electronic filing system (ECF) which both the public and employees' access and utilize daily.

    An OCC Court Reporter must be able to learn how to use OCC specific technology. This knowledge shall be utilized and applied in everyday OCC Court Reporter tasks and administrative duties. The OCC shall provide training for the same.

    This position requires a high level of attention to detail, ability to focus and sit for long periods of time.

    This position requires the individual to be highly organized and maintain their own file organization.


    Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required at this level include knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar, terms and vocabulary employed in legal work, courtroom procedures, and of proper procedures for obtaining verbatim recordings of courtroom testimony.

    Applicant are required to learn and proficiently use Microsoft Office applications to include but not limited to Microsoft Teams and Office 365, Zoom and Adobe PDF software.

    All applicants should have knowledge and be familiar with all Oklahoma Statutes, Rules, Oklahoma Supreme Court Appellate Rules, and Administrative Codes which govern Oklahoma Court Reporting.

    OCC Court Reporters are expected to become knowledge regarding all OCC specific rules.

    Additional Job Description

    Core work hours for a court reporter are Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm. This schedule may require flexibility based on the needs of the agency. This position requires extensive periods of sitting and lack of movement. This position requires the applicant to utilize his/her hands in repetitive typing motions for the full period of work.

    This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to be able to focus for long periods of time i.e.

    for 2-3 hours at a time while writing.

    This position requires the ability to remember and apply differing instructions on the preparation and uploading of cases that differ from division to division.

    This position generally works independently of others and is required to meet specific rule, statute, and/or Agency mandated deadlines.

    Annual equipment allowance may be available to eligible applicants.
