- Provide academic advising/coaching and support to first- and second-year medical students through individual sessions, group sessions, resource development, and strategic email communication.
- Support students in their preparation for the medical licensing board exam, including but not limited to: individualized guidance for study plan development, board preparation resource/program referrals, information sessions, monitoring of study progress, assistance with exam registration, and tracking of COMSAE (practice exam) progress and completion to ensure exam readiness of every student.
- Track the academic progress of at-risk students on Academic Monitoring, Academic Warning, and Academic Probation statuses.
- Monitor student performance in blocks/courses/intersessions and standardized exams. Conduct appropriate student outreach.
- Provide support to first year students as they transition to medical school.
- Conduct appropriate student outreach through a variety of communication methods. Make referrals to campus supports when appropriate, such as mental health counseling and tutoring.
- Maintain confidential advising notes using an online advising management system (EAB Starfish).
- Continuously evaluate student needs and develop corresponding workshops/programming to meet these needs. Programming topics may vary from year-to-year, based on the needs of the students, but will be largely focused on academic success (i.e., test taking strategies, time management, study skills, learning styles, stress management). Occasionally develop and present programming on career-related topics (CV writing, career path selection, networking).
- Engage with student leadership to solicit feedback on student needs and collaborate on the development of programming.
- Present workshops for incoming students during the Pre-Matriculation Program.
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Guided Learning Groups Initiative Program for first-year SGL students, including recruitment, hiring and supervision of approximately 14 student employees, and program execution and evaluation.
- Present reports on individual student progress at the Student Academic Progress (SAP), Student Affairs (SA), and Student Evaluation of Performance (STEP) Committees.
- Provide strategic input on the development of CSS services and programming, evaluation of services, marketing of services, and department initiatives.
- Actively engage in campus committees as well as national organizations that are relevant to the position.
- Occasionally participate in research endeavors and grant writing.
- Adhere to Rowan University's compliance standards as they appear in Rowan University's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keep abreast of all federal, state and Rowan University regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified-Other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY
The staff in the Center for Student Success at Rowan-Virtua SOM provide academic and career advising services for the medical students on the Rowan-Virtua SOM campus.
The Program Coordinator is a full-time professional role that supports students in the earlier part of their medical school curriculum.
The CSS department values candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse backgrounds, and who possess a strong commitment to contributing to the success of historically underrepresented and underserved students.
The staff in the Center for Student Success at Rowan-Virtua SOM provide academic and career advising services for the 800+ medical students on the Rowan-Virtua SOM campus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, education, social work, or a related field. Experience in advising, teaching, and/or coaching. Highly collaborative, innovative, motivated and strong work ethic.
The following qualifications are preferred but not required: Advising, coaching and/or counseling experience within a higher education setting; Experience in advising pre-medical students, medical students, or graduate students; Coaching experience, training, and/or credentials; Counseling training and/or credentials; Membership in local or national organizations.
Ability to recognize and manage one's behaviors and communication to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment within the department/organization.
