The Discovery Biotherapeutics team at BMS seeks to understand the structure and function of complex molecules such as bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and endogenous proteins in order to optimize their utility as therapeutic agents. We collaborate with biology and translational scientists imbedded in the Thematic Research Centers in order to prosecute Targets and Biological pathways with disease modifying potential. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to lead the B-cell and NGS focused Antibody Discovery team within the Antibody Generation group.
The ideal candidate is an experienced scientist with a deep understanding and hands-on experience in antibody generation and sequence repertoire analysis for developing innovative therapeutics.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact within a department that is driving the biologics therapeutics pipelines in BMS.
In this role, the candidate is expected to develop and utilize multiple technologies including Single B-cell Cloning, Display, and Next Generation Sequencing to generate, characterize, and deliver sequence diversified and high-quality antibody lead candidates.
The candidate will also be expected to closely collaborate with computational scientists and biology project leads to progress the BMS biologics portfolio.
Major responsibilities:
Lead a team of 4-5 employees within Antibody GenerationDeliver therapeutic lead antibody candidates that meet the project progression criteriaOptimize the existing Single B Cell and NGS platforms towards a high performing, robust lead delivery platform with seamless connection to downstream groups.
Drive innovation in binder discovery from immune and synthetic repertoires to capture functional diversified leadsServe as Discovery Biotherapeutics representative to advance programs from idea to lead candidate selectionDrive the science and contribute to the vision in the technology development space especially in machine learning driven antibody discovery and gene capture.
Present program updates and data at meetings.Contribute to patents, publications, conference presentations, and technical reports for regulatory submissions.
Accomplish goals under project team timelinesBasic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology or immunology with 8+ years of academic / industry experience or Master's Degree in molecular biology or immunology with 6+ years of academic / industry experience or PhD in molecular biology or immunology with 4+ years of academic / industry experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Immunology with 4 years of industry experience or other relevant experience.
High proficiency in all critical molecular biology techniques with focus on high throughput, high sensitivity gene rescue from single cells and immune tissuesExperience with antibody V gene capture, NGS sequencing and analysis of large sequence repertoires for smart lead selectionHands-on experience in display technologies such as yeast or phage display is a plusExperience with leading a team is required.
In-depth knowledge of B/T cell biology and humoral and cell mediated immune responses.Highly innovative and self-motivated.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a highly matrixed collaborative environmentThe starting compensation for this job is a range from $121,000 to $167,200 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.
