The Opportunity:

Denali is continuing to build a leading and innovative Discovery organization that will strongly contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to lead our Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering efforts and significantly contribute to our Discovery Sciences organization and our Transport Vehicle (TV) platforms, with a particular emphasis on advancing our oligonucleotide (OTV) therapeutics.

This position is based in South San Francisco.

Responsibilities:
Manage all relevant aspects of Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering (5+ direct reports, in a group of ~10), in alignment with the long-term mission, future strategy and objectives of Discovery

Champion and lead efforts to advance the technology and platform needs of our TV-enabled biotherapeutics, driving future therapeutic discovery

Design and characterize active biomolecules, including antibodies and enzyme- and oligonucleotide-linked biotherapeutics

Develop and optimize in vitro and in vivo workflows that advance our oligonucleotide (OTV) therapeutic discovery, optimization, and development efforts

Contribute to the discovery of disease-modifying therapies for highly unmet medical needs, as well as the advancement of therapeutic programs, by actively participating in interdisciplinary research collaborations with Denali scientists and leading academic and industrial research groups

Contribute to the growth and management of our internal Discovery teams

Responsible to lead direct report(s) through annual goal setting, growth planning, adherence to company policies, maintain training compliance and provide ongoing feedback on growth, development and areas of improvement

Establish and manage activities at partner Contract-Research Organizations

Successful candidates will meet most of these criteria:

Ph.
D. in chemistry or protein sciences with 12+ years in the biotech/biopharma industry

A deep understanding and demonstrated excellence in chemical sciences and biotherapeutics including oligonucleotide chemistry, linker chemistry, and the generation, purification and in-depth characterization of antibody bioconjugates

A record of scientific leadership and innovation, as demonstrated by publications and identification of drug candidates

Experience with a variety of engineering and analytical methods for designing and characterizing bioconjugated materials

Strong leadership skills with the ability to plan and achieve research goals in an organizationally diverse research environment

Experience directly leading reports and project teams

Innovative, non-hierarchical approach with high energy

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Highly organized with the ability to effectively prioritize individual and group tasks

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Salary Range:
$217,000 to $230,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
