What We Are Looking For:
This position would be involved in preparing financial records of insurance subsidiaries, handling both GAAP and STAT reporting. The intern role will help ensure accuracy of the general ledger information and will assist in monthly analysis of financial results and key business drivers. In addition to monthly close activities, the intern will assist with special projects and completion and monitoring of internal control activities. This role reports to the Senior Accountant and is required to be onsite 3 days a week at our Durham, NC headquarters.
What You Will Do:
· Prepare GAAP and STAT journal entries. Assist in investigation of significant variances of various income statement accounts.
· Prepare detailed reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and provide assistance in variance explanations.
· Prepare STAT detailed income and balance sheet analysis by legal entity and provide variance explanation.
· Serve as a backup for various functional areas within the department.
· Serve as support for special projects and internal control activities and monitoring.
· Comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, Compliance Program policies and other applicable corporate and departmental policies.
Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.

Requirements:What We Require:
· Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
· Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting theory and practice.
· Analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
· Interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access applications.
· Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
