    Job Highlights

    Support the safety and health of Washington's workforce as an L&I Field Auditor 3.

    In this role, you will perform audits to ensure employers carry industrial insurance and pay the correct amount of industrial insurance premiums as it relates to the assigned risk classification(s) for their business.

    You will also determine whether or not firms are in compliance with industrial insurance reporting requirements.

    Please note:
    This position is considered in training. This position can be filled as an L&I Field Auditor 1, 2, or 3.

    If filled as an L&I Field Auditor 1 or 2, you will need to successfully complete a formal training plan.

    The plan is designed to provide classroom and on-the-job training to encourage individuals to exert their best effort to learn and enhance their skills.

    Upon successful completion of the in-training plan, you will advance to the goal L&I Auditor 3.

    The salary range for each job classification is as follows:


    • L&I Auditor 1: $3, $4,723.00 monthly
    • L&I Auditor 2: $3, $5,088.00 monthly
    • L&I Auditor 3: $4, $5,756.00 monthly

    Some of what you'll do:

    • Prior to conducting audit, review firm's account to become familiar with their business activities. Conducts computer research on firm's accounts with other agency programs.
    • Independently screens, schedules, coordinates, and conducts audits of business financial records to determine premium liability for industrial insurance using accepted accounting principles and generally accepted government auditing standards.
    • Reviews employment contracts and conducts fact-finding interviews to determine independent contractor status for industrial insurance purposes.
    • Determines proper risk classification for job hazards of the business, and if the business is in compliance with industrial insurance reporting requirements.
    • Educates employers by answering questions and providing information related to audit processes, laws and rules.
    • Uses plain language to explain audit findings clearly and concisely and to advise the employer of the proper reporting rules in the field audit result letter.
    • Discusses audit findings with employers and their representatives in postaudit meetings. Interprets and explains proper reporting procedures and relevant portions of the industrial insurance laws (RCWs) and Washington Administrative Code rules (WACs).
    • Works with internal (Litigation Specialists) and external staff (AAGs) to resolve protested audits or determinations.

    Required:

    If hired at the L&I Auditor 1 level:

    • A Bachelor's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class).
    OR


    • An Associate's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) AND two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience.

    If hired at the L&I Auditor 2 level:

    • A Bachelor's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) AND one (1) year of professional accounting or auditing experience.
    OR


    • An Associate's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) AND three (3) years of professional accounting or auditing experience.

    If hired at the L&I Auditor 3 level:

    • A Bachelor's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) AND two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience.

    Please Note:

    Additional professional level accounting or auditing experience will substitute; year for year, for the education except for the 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class).


    Desired:

    • A Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics or closely allied field, or certification as a Public Accountant, Fraud Examiner, Internal Auditor, Information System Auditor, Management Accountant or equivalent certification will substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
    Things You Need To Know

    For this position, telework is permitted full time with occasional in-office days and site visits. The assigned duty station for this position may be in any of our service locations within Washington.


    For positions where in-office work is necessary, the frequency of telework is dependent upon business needs and will be discussed with the supervisor of the position at the time of offer.
