    The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a System Director of Clinical Operations for Gastroenterology.


    This individual will report to the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology with a dotted line accountability to the System Chair of the Department of Medicine, responsible for monitoring and improving access, operational efficiency, and care coordination for GI services across the system.

    This Physician will devote approximately 75-80% time to this role and 20-25% effort in clinical care.

    This individual, with administrative leaders at each site, will develop, implement, and monitor GI physician schedules including block time allocation at MSHS hospital endoscopy units and affiliated endoscopy centers.

    The Physician will also work with ambulatory practice leaders, administrative managers of hospital-based endoscopy and managers of affiliated endoscopy centers to integrate endoscopy block time with office schedules and inpatient service time in a way that optimizes efficiency, productivity, and access across MSHS.

    Our system wide Gastroenterology division is integral to establishing practice standards, metrics, and protocols for Gastroenterology care quality across the Mount Sinai Health System.


    Position Description:

    • Support development of new opportunities for 340b program across MSHS
    • Identify and develop new sources of patient referrals to GI from outside MSHS
    • Identify opportunities for improved capture of patients in need of GI services within MSHS; develop means of enhanced and appropriate referral to GI within the system, which may include building relationships with specific practices and development and maintenance of care pathways for specific GI symptoms and conditions
    • Evaluate and improve the physical (space) and human resource infrastructure for GI practice in support of high-quality care and provider and staff wellness, including consideration of the support of prior authorization specialists, medical assistants, nurses and mid-level providers, scribe programs; work with practice managers locally to improve team efficiency and satisfaction of both patients and providers at practice sites across MSHS
    • Monitor available metrics for access, productivity and quality, and where appropriate metrics are lacking, work with IT and administrative support to develop new means of metric capture and reporting across the MSHS
    • Work collaboratively to develop multidisciplinary teams in support of GI care, including but not limited to cancer care, radiology, pathology, and surgery at every site within the MSHS where possible
    • Work with the call center to improve access across MSHS, service quality, appropriateness and efficiency of ambulatory GI patient intake and scheduling;
    • Work to improve continuity of GI inpatient care with ambulatory follow up care
    • Ensure compliance with clinical standards including but not limited to infection control, patient safety, documentation, and coding; collaborate with Quality Managers on monitoring, analysis, and reporting of quality metrics
    • Ensure integration of clinical operations with the academic missions of MSHS, including education and research
    • Ensure compliance with standardized MSHS processes for credentialing and re-credentialing physicians with associated OPPE and FPPE for all physicians
    • Work strategically with recruitment leaders to be sure the highest quality faculty are recruited and retained across MSHS, to include our network and faculty practice
    • Lead the development of and amendments to policies and procedures related to quality improvement/ medical safety and participates as a stakeholder in the crafting of new policies
    • Maintain personal integrity in all aspects of communication and relationship throughout the organization. Be proactive and adept in communicating with peers and staff
    • Be a full partner with other members of management across MSHS in solving problems; collaborate with the System Division Administrator on resource allocation and budgeting
    • Compensation range from 445K to 650K (not including bonuses / Incentive compensation or benefits)

    Position Qualifications:

    • Medical Degree from an Accredited University
    • New York Medical License
    • Board Certified in Gastroenterology
    • Committed to Mount Sinai and the communities we serve
    • Excellent communication, bedside manner, and organizational skills
    • A strong work ethic and desire to participate in a team-oriented, performance-driven Health System

    Mount Sinai Health System provides a salary range to comply with the New York City law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.

    Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialties, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need.

    As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range.

    The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits.
