    Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for an

    Associate Director of Athletics

    to begin July 1, 2024. Questions about this position may be directed to Chris Hartley , director of athletics.

    Job Summary

    The Associate Director of Athletics reports to the Director of Athletics and is part of an interscholastic athletics program for grades 5-12 that includes 25 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts.

    This Associate Director is part of an athletics staff that supports all programs, coaches, and athletes.

    This person will provide leadership, programmatic vision, strategic planning, administrative support, and day-to-day management of an athletics program that includes over 90 percent of all Middle School students and approximately 70 percent of all Upper School students.

    Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)


    Support the director of athletics in the hiring process including running searches when there are multiple searches happening at the same time.

    Support the director of athletics in working through complex and significant issues, especially when the director is unavailable.

    Support the director of athletics in coach evaluations and regular feedback to coaches throughout the season for teams in both divisions.

    Oversee facilities, including the creation of facilities usage schedules, preparation of facilities for practices and competitions, coordination of maintenance requests, management of on and off-site facilities rental contracts.

    Commitment to providing supports, messaging, actions, and opportunities to a diverse student body and coaching staff who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation as athletes and coaches.

    In partnership with other staff members, act as official supervisor at home and away competitions.

    Primary contact for scheduling all athletic events (in conjunction with program heads) with nonleague schools; maintain all competition schedules on the Metro League website, rSchool, and Lakeside's website; maintain coaching certifications on FinalForms; coordinate postseason registration with the Metro League, Sea-King District 2, and the WIAA.

    Support the director of athletics in his role as the Metro League swim & dive commissioner.
    Attend Lakeside athletics events off-campus, helping to ensure a consistent and dependable administrative presence.
    Manage apparel, equipment, and uniform purchases and storage for the department.

    Participate in all program head meetings and all seasonal coach's meetings, including but not limited to presenting, leading discussions, and advancing the work of the group(s).

    Support multi-sport participation for student-athletes.

    Participate in the life of the school, including but not limited to serving on committees, serving as a student advisor, and supporting the captains' council.

    In cooperation with the Director of Athletics, provide oversight and direction for the Athletics Intern.

    Represent Lakeside Athletics at community events on and off campus including, but not limited to, admissions events, league, district, and state meetings, various Lakeside board events, PGA events, and school assemblies.

    Other duties as assigned by the director of athletics

    Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

    Demonstrated technological proficiency (PC/Windows platform, Microsoft Office, Adobe suite).
    Enthusiasm for the role of education-based athletics.
    Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions.

    Candidates will understand different perspectives, interact respectfully with cultures other than their own, and cultivate meaningful relationships with people who have different cultural frameworks.

    Vision and creativity for athletics in the independent school environment.
    Strong organizational and communication skills.
    Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
    Satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.


    Education and Experience:
    Bachelor's degree in a field related to athletics, sports management, or education.
    Experience managing some aspect of an athletics program with middle or secondary-school level preferred.

    At least three years of experience in leadership work in and educational setting with middle and/or high school athletics leadership preferred.

    If not already certified, the person hired must obtain First Aid and CPR certifications immediately.

    Physical Requirements


    While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms and carry office related supplies and equipment.

    Ability to walk from upper school to middle school campus (about 3 long blocks away).
    Physical ability to move around on multiple surfaces including sports fields and courts, sometimes for extended periods of time.
    Ability to lift up to 25 pounds overhead.
    Ability to lift and set up furniture (chairs/tables) and sports equipment.
    Standing/sitting for long period of time during event days which exceed eight hours.
    Potential exposure to dust.
    Exposure to outside weather conditions such as rain, snow, wind and fog.

    Compensation

    Salary Range:
    $95,000 - $105,000
