    As an essential operating room team member, your top priority as a Surgical Technician Assistant is a safe and infection-controlled environment for every patient.

    Protecting patients from harm and maintaining the proper instrumentation during surgery, your variety of responsibilities require assembly, transport, disinfection, calibration, and troubleshooting of surgical instrumentation.

    It's all about preparation and anticipation, ensuring the sterile surgical trays and equipment are ready when the surgical team needs it.

    You focus on the little things, and organize by checking, rechecking, and checking once again.

    And when a new Surgical Assistant comes on board, you mentor and train as needed because you know healthcare is a team effort.

    Your Everyday


    • Maintain and assemble various types of surgical instrumentation in order to provide safe patient care.
    • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of various types of surgical equipment, disinfecting prior to operating room setup.
    • Prepare the operating room environment for the next surgery patient under direct supervision.
    • Transport equipment between operating room suites as directed.
    • Transport dirty instrument carts to sterile processing using appropriate infection control techniques.
    • Report equipment malfunctions to the operating room charge nurse and/or manager.
    • Maintain appropriate levels of equipment/supplies in the various surgical areas (including sterile cores and sterile processing department).
    • Assist with returning overstock supplies and checking sterile supplies for out of dates products.
    • Assist with pulling supplies and instrumentation for surgical cases.
    • Assist with completing survey readiness checklists on a weekly basis and compiling performance improvement/quality control data as directed.
    • Assist the surgical technicians with patient care without directly performing surgical technician.
    • Assist with training and orientation of staff/students.
    The Must-Haves


    Minimum:

    • Currently enrolled in the School of Surgical Technology.
    • American Heart Association BLS certification.
